Birthday party goodie bags are my nemesis

DD1 just had a blast at her friend's birthday party, until we got in the car with that damn goodie bag.  It happens every. single. time.  It's like a perfect storm of flimsy plastic junk and treats that aren't safe for nut allergies.  I dread the sight of them at every party.

Vent over.

Re: Birthday party goodie bags are my nemesis

  • Sorry! :( We haven't been to a ton of birthday parties so far, but the ones we have been to haven't had any nut issues. They've mostly been closer friends who are aware of the boys' allergies and one kid has nut allergies as well. That stinks. :( How do you handle it? Do you bring alternate treats or just throw it away?

  • Oh I was just having a bad day :)  She had such a good time at the party, and then it was meltdown city on the ride home.  Her heart has been broken so many times by plastic slinkys :)

I bring a safe cupcake for her, but I just take out the goodie bag treats before I give the other stuff to her.  People mean well, they just don't realize how many things are "made in a facility." DD's peanut allergy is really bad, so I don't take any chances.

On Halloween I do trade out stuff, though.  I get toys and safe treats, and swap out the unsafe candy.
