I am seriously craving a hot fudge sundae. Like, I'm about ready to strangle someone if I can't have one. So I'm trying to figure out a way to make it work...
Smuckers makes a sugar-free hot fudge. It is still 23 grams of carbs, 17 of them being "Sugar Alcohol", or maltitol. I'm not really sure how to count it, though... I did a bit of googling, but I'm not really sure I understand it, or trust it. Basically what I've found is to cut the number of carbs from "sugar alcohol" in half, so 14.5 grams of carbs for one serving, which still seems like a lot for 2 tablespoons of this stuff.
Breyers CarbSmart ice cream is about 4 grams of carbs per serving, so while it's not really all that great, it helps with the craving.
I could always cheat a bit and go for a really long walk afterwards. My sugars have been really good lately, on the lower side of the good range, so it's not going to kill me or the baby, but I'd still like to avoid excess sugar. And if I can figure out a way to make this work, I can give into the craving a little more often.
My next appointment with my diabetes educator is in ten days, and she's not the nutritionist, so I don't know if she'd be able to answer my question. I'd rather err on the side of caution and just avoid it, although I still may scream and cry about it. I just don't want to think it's okay and find out it's a problem, especially if I have to spend money on the jar and then not be able to use it.
