Pink Super Hero: Early morning feeding

Probably didn't needs it's own thread because it isn't too far down, sorry.

So, he used to wake up at 5:30, we would give a bottle, then he would sleep until 7.  It was 5:30 on the dot, sometimes he would drink 8 oz, 6, or just 3, then pass out.  About a month ago he stopped going back to sleep.  I would put him down, he would scream until I got him.  So we felt like it was habit, he wasn't really hungry, and the morning feeding was now waking him up for the day.  It was terrible.  We were getting up so early that his first nap was over by 8:30.

So, we started to make him wait it out/cry it out.  So at first I said I refused to get him until 6.  So, he would wake up and we ignored him.  I would turn the monitor off and set my alarm for 6.  If he was up I would get him if not fantastic, it worked on the very first day.  I woke up at 6, checked my alarm and he was sound asleep.

6 is early, but I am ok with that wake up time.  So if he gets up at 6 fine, if earlier we don't get him.  He has actually been getting up later and later.  Since we started this and isn't waking up at all before 6 and today slept until 6:50.

Obviously, this isn't a genius plan, but I just realized I needed to not get him and his internal clock changed.  If there is all out screaming at 5:30, maybe try increments of 10.  Like for a few days get him at 5:40, then a few days at 5:50, I don't know.  All of that is up to you. But, seriously I just put my foot down and told this kid hell to the no.

  • Sounds like a good plan.  I have to gird my loins to actually do it- we've tried it a few nights and he does not seem excited about going back to sleep, and the screaming keeps us awake (we don't even need a monitor, our rooms are close enough).  And when he woke up at 5:30 today and I went in to give him the bottle, he was standing up!  Little weirdo.  GO TO SLEEP, BABY.

  • Sorry to butt in, but we did the same thing only we used 7:00. Now, he still wakes up around 6 most mornings but he will happily play in his crib until around 7 and then he knows its time to get out and will fuss if we don't get him. He used to scream his little head off!

  • My guy wakes at 4 on the dot every morning too. We have tried CIO but it was waking my other kids, we have big kids too, plus I'm worried about the neighboors complaining because we live in a twin home.

How long did your LO cry when you first tried this? How long is too long? When we did it he cried for like over an hour, no lie! For us that was too long.

    Thanks for the tips Meg!

Is my kid the only uber dramatic one on the board?nbsp; When he wakes up, he NEEDS TO EAT NOW MOMMY!nbsp; Like, screams his head off like he's dying until he immediately gets on the boob the morning feeding is the only one we haven't weaned from yet, because 4:45 is way too early for me to be awake.nbsp; So while I think we are going to try this new morning routine you and Nese are speaking of, Megs, I'm afraid my neighbors will think that my child is being attacked.

Then maybe your neighbors will come feed him and you can loll about in bed until lunch!!

Just give it 3 days. Day 1 will be crazy, day 2 better, by day 3 he should get it. As long as you are consistent. And you have seen how dramatic mine can be. You got this!

PS to everyone I do make sure she eats and has milk right before bed. So I know she should be able to make it to 7am.

  • He finally stopped being a psycho about eating right in the morning recently.  It was a lot easier than I thought it would be .  Our room is right next to his so I hear him and that was sad.  So this is terrible, I would turn on my ac and turn off his monitor.  When I would turn the monitor back on in 20 min or so he was asleep, not dead, so phew. Good luck girls!

Also, we have books in his bed so a lot of times he wakes up, freaks for a minute, then reads like a dork and passes back out.  Sometimes he just reads nicely and I go get him around 6:30ish.
