Healthy Meal Ideas?

I need some inspiration on eating healthier! I know most of us are in the middle of the awful morning sickness but anybody have some easy healthy meal or snack ideas?

All I seem to want to eat or even sounds remotely good have been junk food, fast food. I feel like this baby is surviving off of junk! It doesn't help that we just got back from a 2 week vacation where we ate out a lot and DH has been gone for a week so I have zero motivation to cook when its just DD and I.

Re: Healthy Meal Ideas?

  • I know the feeling, I haven't really had an appetite for a lot of healthy food either. I've been eating a lot of grilled cheese though. I know it's not the most healthiest thing but it's not terrible and it helps my cheese craving I've been having. For snacks I've been having  hummus with pretzels , peanut butter on saltines, and anything with cheese.

One of the few things I have been actually wanting and does not make me nauseous is fruit. I have been eating tons of apples and strawberries.

Also a healthy cereal with milk might be a good option for getting extra calcium and vitamin D.

  • My fave snack these days is honey Greek yogurt with granola.  Mmm Mmm.  My 9 yo loves it.  And she loves hummus and pita bread (blech, I don't).  So we always keep that stuff stocked in the house.

Other than that, I don't know how healthy my recipes are.  I cook with a lot of wine .... it gives everything such a yummy flavor, IMO.  I can give you some easy, go-to recipes, but don't know that they're healthy.

  • I am in the same boat you are..nothing has been sounding good to me and once something does sound good, its usually bad for me.  Only thing that has been helping me is dehydrated fruits.  I turned to the dried fruits earlier this week since I shouldn't be grabbing for candy which has been helping with the nausea.
  • try a green smoothie in the morning. This is what mine has:

    Kale
    Spinach
    Strawberries
    Banana
    Blueberries
    Blackberries
    Omega 3 oil
    Hemp hearts
    Chia seeds
    Flax
    Orange juice or water
    Scoop of vanilla protein powder

  • Try this easy healthy meal I got from prevention magazine: it has chicken, quinoa, sweet poataoes peas and cilantro delicious! https://www.food.com/recipe/chickensweetpotatoandquinoastirfry474446

  • Grilled chicken is a good healthy option and you can make a bunch at once then "repurpose" it in different meals throughout the week. Which I find nice when I don't feel like cooking. For example, you could do cold or warm grilled chicken over a salad, Chicken served with a side of rice and sautedspinach w/garlic and olive oil, chicken salad with grapes, Chicken stir fry, etc.

For snacks I've been liking fruit, raw baby carrots with dip, 100 calorie packs of pretzels, and string cheese.

If you give me ideas of what you like or can currently eat. I might be able to think of more ideas.

  • Thanks everyone! I will try these ideas out! I think next week when DH is back I will feel better. I'll actually be able to cook!
