Breastfeeding and cramps

Hey all. Since my LO has been 4 months or so I've been having period like cramps. It started off light but gradually worsened. I did a pregnancy test and it came out negative. No period either. Have any of you ladies experienced this? TIA

Re: Breastfeeding and cramps

  • This is me?  It started for me when LO was about 3 months. I honestly get them for a few days then they were gone only to come back about a month later.  And I would say last week I was eating like I had PMS.  I know I'm not pregnant as we were only cleared to DTD yesterday and we haven't yet.  I'm wondering if it's my bodies way of keeping cycle without actually having a period.

This did not happen with my first and I had one period at 2 months pp.

  • Could it maybe be chronic dehydration?

ETA I'm having tons of trouble drinking enough water while BFing. I just got a liter water bottle to keep hydrated.

You know I have recently been experiencing this cramping thing off and on. I wouldn't have thought dehydration, but that makes a lot of sense. I havn't been drinking nearly enough water. I was also admitted at 32 weeks due to dehydration, I was having contractions but it was because I wasn't taking in enough fluids. Since then I have tried to be more careful but not as enough as I should.

I really hope it helps! Dehydration can do some really nasty things to the body!

  • Thanks everyone for the replies. I don't really measure the amount of fluids I drink but I think I drink enough.. Maybe I'll try to pay closer attention just in case. I didn't think of that either thanks :) hopefully it's nothing. I'll probably see a doctor sometime soon if it persists or gets worse!

  • I was having the same issues. I talked to my doctor about it and she told me that when breastfeeding we may no have a period at all the whole time you are breastfeeding. You can still have all the sign but no period.
