First u/s - neutral news

First ultra sound today...by my calculations I'm about 7 weeks pregnant.  What was found was an egg sac and yolk, but no fetal pole. What we were told is that there is about a 50/50 chance that the pregnancy will progress. It's entirely possible that it's just too early to see anything, or it could be a blighted ovum. The PA said that the sac shows the appropriate growth, but admitted they do usually see more at 7 weeks, although it's not unheard of not to. I had blood drawn today to check my HCG levels, with another draw scheduled for Monday, so we'll know more on Tuesday. I'm staying calm and considering this neutral news, and considering myself pregnant until they tell me otherwise. My gut says everything is fine, whatever that's worth...

  • As a late implanter, I've now had two first u/s that measured behind what I had been expecting (10 days with DD, 5 days with this one).  I hope that is all you're dealing with, and your draws bring good news!

  • This same thing happened to me on Thursday. According to my lmp of 4/24 I should be 7 weeks but I was measuring at 5. I'm having blood drawn today to be compared with blood drawn from Thursday. Hopefully nothing but positive outcome for us both and anyone else in a similar situation. But I have a thought. If conception happens approximately 2 weeks after lmp, wouldn't the fetus only be 5 weeks? All these new terms are just confusing and it doesn't help that health professionals use them interchanging when they have different meanings.

     Thanks so much everyone!!

T&P to you as well mamabc14.  I know it's confusing, but pregnancy dating always goes by the first day of your LMP (or, if you're a late ovulater, about 14 days before you ovulated). So five weeks after you implanted your fetus is still considered a 7 week fetus. That's my understanding anyway.

Everything I'm reading says things vary so much in the early days, so...
