  • Tap water as long as its not well water or if it makes you feel better they have nursery water for babies at the grocery store. Can't comment on the filter not sure if it removes fluoride or not.

  • Our tap water is fine here so we used that. If your really concerned then boil it first and just wait till it cools down a bit

  • I am on a well so I had to put a filter on my sink faucet. You can buy them for about $20 at home depot, etc.  They screw right onto your faucet which makes it easier to get water quickly and not have to remember to keep filling the brita pitcher. It also made it easier to use lukewarm water from the sink rather than cold water from the fridge and then warming the bottle.

  • Just my tap water (well). We boiled it and once it cooled put it in a container on the counter to keep at room temperature until we needed to mix with formula. Some people can go crazy with types of water, constant sterilization of bottles... I would do this if my child was a preemie or had other health issues, but IMO if your baby is healthy, boiled water should be fine and bottles cleaned in hot/soapy water should be adequate.

  • You are over thinking, but that's okay Smile We just used filtered water from our fridge or regular tap water.

Also, no need to defend your decisions regarding feeding.

Thanks! I have a tendency to obsess over the most trivial things.  And, I didn't want this to turn into a lecture about BF and was kind of debating posting for that reason.

    Thanks for the reassurance! :)

This. No need to defend your feeding choice. If BFing can be freely talked about, so can't FFing :)

  • Just plain tap water.

    This is a dumb question...don't judge.nbsp; What kind of water do you use to mix the formula with? Did you use tap, bottled, or did you run it through one of those brita purifiers?nbsp; I was thinking of just running it through a purifier but I don't know if it would remove the fluoride, which they need when they start teething. nbsp;I think I'm way over thinking this.nbsp; Ugh, the things that keep me up at night...nbsp; And please no "why aren't you breastfeeding" responses.nbsp; FWIW, I plan on trying but am just trying to prepare if it doesn't work out for some reason. nbsp;

We tried BF but had awful supply issues. When I switched to FF we used tap water. If the water in your area is not good from the tap then I've heard filtered is fine or you can buy nursery water.

  • I did filtered from the fridge too until my Dr told me to use nursery water, so I switched to that. But I can't remember why she said to switch, lol.

  • I was fine with using tap water but my husband felt better using nursery water so that is what we did.

  • We got a Brita to keep out at room temp so when we made bottles, the water wouldn't be cold. It's easier to mix formula with room temp water than it is cold.

We also ended up getting one of those formula pitchers (ours was Dr Brown's) so we could make a full day's worth of bottles at once, and then just refrigerate them. That made it easier, especially at night.

And no flames here, I felt the same way about BF/FF and we ended up FF'ing from week 2 on. It worked great for us and we will probably do the same thing again.

  • I used filtered water from my Brita.

We have well water so we used store brand - cheap filtered water gallons from the grocery store.

As for the fluoride I can tell you they started them on drops first and now chewable pills since we don't have "city" water.

  • Thanks for all the responses! I had no idea about nursery water!

  • It depends on the water source. At my parent's house I have no issue using water from the tap with both my boys. At home I use the water from our fridge, so that is filtered water. We live in a city, most people around here drink bottled water or have some sort of filter.

I tried to breastfeed with both of my 2 boys. My oldest is a little tongue tied, plus my nipples are a little inverted.. So he never latched on. I pumped for 6 weeks then poured it into bottles and feed him that way My second was in the NICU for 11 days. By the time we got home, dealing with a 2 year old and a new born, having latching issues again.. I decided to pump again. I did it for 10 weeks Then I had to go back to work, I didn't want to deal with pumping and storing while at work Plus I felt like pumping and then feeding the baby and trying to spend time with my oldest, wasn't really working. Formula was more convenient. You have to do what will work for your family It doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks. I will try to breast feed yet again, but if it doesn't work I won't stress myself out over it

    Good Luck!
