Pregnant after 35

Braxton Hicks

I didn't realize you could get them so early in the pregnancy, but I definitely had one the other night.  It came on quite suddenly and lasted about 10 minutes or so, but went away when I turned on my side. It was really uncomfortable! Like I had menstrual cramps and they wouldn't quit.

I think that firmed up for me that I will definitely be getting an epidural. Not that I was doubting that I would but I was going to see how long I could hold out before asking for it.  Yeah, probably not for very long.

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

Epidurals are nice!!  But what I really wanted to say is that I can't believe you're  over 18 weeks already!  Yay!

I know!!!!  I can't believe it either. Thanks Joi for always checking in on us over here :)

  • I second Joi's comment!  Wow, time is flying!   Could the pain have been ligament pain in your abdomen rather than BH?  I had it a fair bit when my tummy first started really expanding and the ligaments were getting stretched, which was probably about the point you're at now.

  • I cannot figure what is RLP, Braxton Hicks, or just growth contractions.  I've had a stinging pain in a vertical 4" line to the left of my belly button for a week now.  My MFM said it is a growth contraction.  Yay me.  I have a lot of aches and pains from growing so quickly.  Doctors said only to worry if it doesn't go away after drinking water, eating, and resting / lying down and comes at regular intervals for an extended period of time.

I had already planned on an epidural and saw no need to wait on it.  :)

Mostly what I think are Braxton hicks are not really painful. More like a tightening in my lower abdomen that feels like someone is squeezing it but without much pain.

But lately I've been feeling more menstrual-like cramping that lasts for awhile.

And then there is gas pain.

I swear trying to figure out what is what is annoying!

That's what this was but it was much stronger than regular menstrual cramps and my uterus got really hard. One of the girls on my FB group said that is what happens so that is why I thought it was BH. I haven't had much RLP yet, I guess I don't really know what that is supposed to feel like either.

All I know is that I am hoping the stage where I throw up and pee my pants at the same time is almost over. My underpants can't take it anymore :)

Oh man, that happened to me one time and my sister said, "I can't believe it hasn't happened before now!" Bad enough throwing up, even worse peeing yourself!

I have had TONS of RLP and sometimes what feels like light menstrual cramps. There are times my tummy gets hard. I get bad gas pains sometimes too. It's a trip trying to keep it all straight in your head, that's for sure. And I will def be getting an epidural as well. I knew that after feeling contractions when they tried to induce my miscarriage, unsuccessfully. I've had enough pain for one lifetime.

Oh no! You are still getting sick? Sorry to tell you that the wetting yourself does not get better. I have had a cold this past week and had to clench every time I sneezed, blew my nose, or coughed. Sadly, it did not always work.
