Re: Kick Counts

  • My doctor told me starting at 24 wks you should feel the baby once an hour.

  • Baby in utero will sleep for about 1214 hours a day, when my LO is awake and kicking, I can see him doing it outside my body and it's usually in clusters of 56 in a minute or two, then he sleeps for an hour or so. I'm 22 weeks today.
  • For me I don't actually count the kicks at all - I was told after my first pregnancy that baby will have relatively consistent kicking sessions as far as how much during certain times of day (they'll have active times and times they are sleeping) and it's more a comparison of the days to make sure they remain consistent.

If they suddenly slow down one day for a noticeable difference compared to the other days, that's a red flag, but as long as frequency increases or stays the same as the pregnancy progresses, I don't worry about it too much. Actually counting would make me crazy.

ETA: Towards the end when there is less room in there for baby to move, I expect movement to slow, but normally it's not going to be a sudden decrease but rather a gradual one.
