For BFing MoMs: Skipping MOTN feeding at 7 weeks

Title for those on mobile: For BFing MoMs: Skipping MOTN feeding at 7 weeks

My Baby B is my better sleeper, and several times including the last two nights, she has skipped a MOTN feeding. We don't do "one up, both up" yet as they're only 7 weeks old, so I'm feeding on demand. Last night, both babies went to sleep at 11:30 PM, then Baby A woke at 4. I was ecstatic about the 4 hour stretch of sleep, and after I nursed her, changed her, and put her back to bed, I expected Baby B to wake up any minute. I laid back down to wait and the next thing I knew, Baby B was fussing... at 6 AM! nbsp;I nursed her and she was starving of course.nbsp;I'm trying to BF but had to supplement with formula in the hospital due to weight issues and now both girls but especially B have a preference for bottles after my initial letdown is gone. So all along, I've been worried about establishing my supply. My question for you ladies who BF your multiples is whether you would let your baby sleep or wake her up to eat to make sure your supply doesn't diminish?Thanks!nbsp;

ETA that I know I could pump after feeding Baby A, but I never know when Baby B is going to wake up. I seem to always get it wrong.

  • I think you are fine. My babies sleeping is all over the place. When they have done 10 hr stretches, I have had to pump for relief. My supply is avaiable for them even with their sleep being anywhere from 4 hrs to 10 hrs. I don't think your supply will diminish unless it becomes a constant pattern. I would only pump if you need to for relief.

  • I agree with PPs, get your sleep.  Around 2 months my twins' sleep was all over everywhere.  DS would be up every 3 hours and DD would sleep for 6-9 hours straight one night and then be up every three hours the next night.  Their odd night sleep patterns never affected my supply. Just continue nursing on demand, your body will know what to do.

  • I wake them...1 up both up. I need to keep them on same schedule for my sanity.
