Anyone elses LO hate the carseat?

He used to love it and now he hates any car trips.  He doesn't mind being carried in it, but when we are in the car he starts to cry after a few minutes.  I feel like it could be that he wants to sit up straighter (since the infant/convertibles rear facing should be reclined).  Anyone else?  any suggestions?

Thanks for your help

  • My little girl hates the carseat - has on and off - I found lately she's bored.  If I give her a piece of paper or a toy or something she's better.

That said -if you are still using hte infant seat I think you will find a lot of convertibles are more upright and may work better for you.  (will need to be rear facing of course!)

DS was the exact same way.  I think he got too broad and was uncomfortable and yes he wanted to be more upright.  Once we made the switch to a convertible he is much happier.

  • Thanks so much for the info, I will be getting a convertible shortly.
  • We have a small mirror that she faces, I find it helps a lot. She loves to chat with the baby in the mirror. Still she can get fussy when the car stops moving at lights etc... When that happens I whistle for her and sing songs this gets us through til we are moving again.
  • He HATES it and fights going in it.  He also will cry about 50% of the time and the other 50% he is ok.  I bring toys for him which do help sometimes.

This what happened with my DD too.  She hated being so reclined in the infant seat and couldn't stand that she couldn't reach the toys hanging from the handle.  Once she was able to sit up on her own, we immediately switched out to the convertible.  Now she can see out the window and loves the cheap plastic craft mirror I hung form the back headrest.  I found she needs to hold on to something so we always make sure she has her lovey or a toy in the car as well.

  • I think you should have a few different "just for the car" toys, and give your DS one when you get in the car. It'll be one he doesn't see when he's at home or at the store, so it'll be "new" for a while.

I also like the idea of paper; my DS is obsessed with paper! Could the car seat be becoming too warm for him? I think that may be the problem with my DS...
