Nicknames

So... 9/10 months in (more for some...) what kind of nicknames have evolved? I'm not talking cutesy pet names... actual nicknames. I know it was a big discussion before the babes came along and a lot of people were of the opinion that they should evolve on their own. So... have they? Do you think they'll stick?

Hughitt goes by Woogie most of the time. Jack's version of Hughitt was Woohitt, which he shortened on his own to Wooey. DH thought he was saying "woogie" so he called him that one day and Jack thought it was sooo funny ("Silly dada!") and it just stuck. So now my kid is Woogie. It's cute for a family nickname, but I'm really hoping he can maintain Hughitt out in the real world.

Re: Nicknames

  • Richard gets called Richasaurus by me sometimes. He has been called Richie a few times, he still mostly goes by Richard.

  • Really the only one that has come about is Ry. My dad often calls him that. I've said it a few times too. It probably won't catch on much till DS gets older though.
  • The most common one that people call him is Eli. It bothers me a little since his name is pronounced El-i-jah, not E-li-jah.

I call him Bug, since he's my little Lovebug.

  • No real nicknames yet. We call him StinkerBear allll the time, but that's just at home. A lot of the time nicknames come from young siblings who have a hard time saying the name correctly. Those kind are my favorite!

  • Wevvit for Everett. Mathieu can't pronounce it right so it had just stuck lol.

  • I would say DD has two main nicknames: EJ (her initials) would be one. My FIL seems to prefer this for her, which is fine by me. When she starts rocking out on her activity table we call her DJ EJ Smile

We also refer to her as Babu, or sometimes The Babu. So much that my parents have picked up on it, too. She even responds to this one now! I don't really remember how it came about, but instead of baby she became Babu, and now we refer to ourselves as Mamu and Dadu instead of Mommy and Daddy. I guess we'll see what she ends up calling us when she figures out how to talk.

  • Camille is Cam or Cami. She will respond to Mille (like mill-e), but dh HATES that, so I usually just call her that to irk him ;)

DH calls her Gah-booh-gah 90% of the time. IDK what the helll that is.

My family calls David, Baby Boy or Goo Goo. My ILs call him Master Dave or Handsome Dave.

He responds best to Baby Boy.

  • Scarlet is "scar" to most people. To her dad and I she's "noodle" and has been for months. Sometimes I forget and call her noodle in public. Ppl must think I gave her a really stupid name

  • that is funny that Hughitt is woogie. I call Aiden boogie. Not even sure how it happened, but he will get called boogie or Monster.

  • We call DD "Bean." We have since she was just a little squiggly on the ultrasound monitor. DH calls her "Sprout."

  • My dad calls her Goober and its been sticking. Ugh.

DH started saying Nat and I put an end to that real quick. Not a fan.

When I was pregnat, DD was Sweet Pea.  We called her that for a few weeks after she was born.  We went through a phase where we were calling her Cheeks or Cheekie-cheecks (for her chubby cheeks).  That evolved into Chica.  That phase passed.  We've been calling her Jelly Belly since before x-mas.  Although sometimes its just Jelly.  Sometimes DH calls her Princess.  But I'm hoping that one doesn't stick.

I have a friend whose little girl is Jelly... I'm not sure how it originated, but it's cute!

  • DD's first name is Olivia, but we call her Lily.  It is a family name, and also a family nickname (My Great Grandmother's).  We really liked it, so it stuck.  Also, DH started calling her Bug when she was a newborn, and we refer to her as "The Bug".

  • We just started calling Drake Bulldozer because he will crawl over anything in his way. Toy, brother, sister, box, doesn't matter. He already answers to it lol. Bentley hasn't gotten a nickname just yet but I'm sure it's coming.

  • Lee or leelee.  His name is short though so no real nicknames have stuck.  We have pet names that we call both boys like papas, chiquito, gordos.

  • We call him Biddle or Biddles which came from my friend using baby voice and called him a "widdle Biddle" when she met him.
Or Biddle bit. Or just Bit. DD calls him Biddles, she used to call him baby Oliver. She'll still use Ollie as will DH. He calls him monster too.

  • I've called Albert "Bud" since he was born, and didn't know why until months later.  My Granny calls little boys "Bud" all the time and that was where I got it.

Strangers tend to call him "Smiley" because he smiles all the time.

  • My 2 year old is bud or buddy most of the time. He pronounces DD's name "Ni nee". I call her Lindley girl, baby girl or sweet girl.

  • We call her Piglet because of how tiny she was when she was born and then she had gained weight without ever losing any before we left the hospital (which apparently is very uncommon). She still lives up to the name and loves to eat. DH and I also call her Bells (which now our niece and nephew have begun to call her) and Bellaboo. But we do call her Bella mostly. The odd time we call her Cheeky-Cheekers because of her chubby cheeks but it's mostly Bella or Bells, which she responds to.

  • DH is boring and only calls DS by his actual name. I however have several for him:

Sugeezee (evolved from calling him sugar)

Shunk ties (evolved from chunk thighs)

    Monkey

My poor boy has arrived at his nickname in the same fashion. His name is Julian. Right after he was born, I was calling him Juli a lot. I know, I know, that's a girl's nickname. Anyway, DD couldn't say Juli, but she could manage Dewie. And now that's basically what everyone calls him. I, too, hope he can reclaim his given name in the real world.

  • I had a conversation with DH about how the babies would possibly say each others names in the beginning and we agreed that it would be something like "Bibbi" for Vivi(an) and "Samo" for Samuel and I call them by those names often. Otherwise it's generally Sam and Viv or sometimes Vivi. Lately I call them both Turkey Burger which is...weird. I can't stop myself.

  • I still call him Handsome a lot, and Baby. My dad calls him TannerMan, which I adore that he has his own nickname for him. DH calls him Little Guy still. I don't think any of these will stick in the real world though.

  • DS1 calls Bishop "baba" so that sort of evolved into me calling him "babalicious" lol but only I call him that.  Those are pretty much his only nicknames.
  • Our daughter is Olivia and we call her Bella or Livi or Olivi

  • Oh my, there are quite a few. His real name nickname is Ian, of course. We decided that as soon as we decided on Killian...Ian has always been a favorite of mine, and would have been my name if I had been a boy. My Mom and sister call him Little Man, my Dad and husband call him boyo and occasionally Killer, husband and MIL call him boogie, booger, boogaboo...I call him any pet name that I feel like that second...pumpkin, baby cakes, baby doll, handsome, blue eyes...Munchkin is what I've called him since I found out I was pregnant..for awhile after he was born I called him frogger because he was so long and skinny that when you held him up he looked like a little frog...baby bear is also a common one because sometimes he's like watching a bear cub eat, play with something, roar at me etc. A family friend of ours calls him Red (like Killian's Irish red...) which I actually love because that was one of my Grandfather's nicknames and I just think it's pretty cute (because, no, it doesn't bother me that he shares his name with a beer...Killian was a name long before it was the name of a beer....and hey, at least it's a good beer..). I think the ones that will really stick as he gets older are Ian (obviously), Killer, Red, and boyo. He'll also at some point get an Irish nickname...it's a tradition my dad started with my sister and I (for instance, mine is Rinkeor...which is Irish for little dancer) so once he has one, my dad will call him that pretty frequently.
