Sippy cups

When do you introduce them? I EBF and I know there is no real reason to give him any water but just wondering when you did/do plan on offering one?

Re: Sippy cups

  • our pedi recommended us to introduce a sippy cup of water at 6 months. He doesn't expect her to to take it right away but he wants us to introduce it slowly so that by 9 months she knows how to take a sippy cup. But you're correct, babies dont really need water, or too much of it atleast.

  • I already introduced it at 5 months. Its Platex. Has a no spill valve. She dosn't get a whole lot of water out of it because she is still learning. Its just for practice.

  • We introduced one at 4 months briefly and are just now starting to push it more because DD really enjoys playing with sippy cups and trying to figure them out.  She doesn't take a bottle though, if she took a bottle we probably would have held off on the sippy cup.

  • I was just reading about this! He recommended introducing at 6 months, but not expecting the baby to actually use it until 9 months. It's just for practice. I'm going to put breast milk in it.

  • A plays with sippys bc she loves to try to steal my water bottles. She hasn't drank any water yet but we let her play.

  • With DS1, I introduced one at 5 months. I will probably do the same with Cole sometime this week. I didn't push it. It was more of a toy/something to explore at first. I put water in it. It was a few months before he drank any significant amount.

We started with a straw sippy. I loved this one! https://www.amazon.com/Playtex-First-Gripper-Trainer-Colors/dp/B004E2H3PA

After they learn how to use them, I found these to be the most convenient. We are transitioning to a regular cup with my almost 2 year old, but we still use these a lot, especially on the go. Easiest sippy to clean, cheap, and easy to use. https://www.amazon.com/First-Years-Take-Toss-Spill-Proof/dp/B00005QSKC/ref=sr_1_3?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1371313964&sr=1-3&keywords=take+and+toss+cups
