slow blood clotting?

Is anyone familiar with this? My DD was at CHOP a few weeks ago for constipation tests. During a bloodtest, they found out her clotting levels were low and didnt do all the procedures they had planned to. Her bloodwork showed shes low in vitamin K and D, which help clotting. She was put on supplements, but meanwhile, the GI wants to run other tests to figure out whats causing it. One test is for CF which freaks me out, especially because I'm pretty sure she was screened as a newborn (I'm looking into this). Has anyone dealt with slow clotting? What was the cause? Thanks

Re: slow blood clotting?

  • Hi! My dd has the correct number of platelets but they don't work properly. Therefore she initially clots but then the clot falls off and she has prolonged bleeding. Hers was suspected after a colonoscopy she bled for a week. And after a blood work up at hematologist she was diagnosed with a platelet disorder called a storage pool defect. We got the dx in August. She was born this way although it took 6 years to find out and most likely someone else in our family has it too.
We now have meds for emergencies, some restrictions on activities, and a specific emergency care plan but otherwise she's going great. Contact me if you have any questions.
