Forever eating

This is going to sound weird and is by no means a complaint, but my kid takes forever to eat. For lunch, she has 3 chicken nuggets, string cheese, and sliced strawberries and she hasn't come up for air in over an hour. She has been in the habit of eating for over an hour for every meal and making sure not to miss a single bite. She doesn't really like her bottles and will only drink 10 to 18 ounces a day, if I'm lucky. Anyone else have a "thorough" eater?

Re: Forever eating

  • Sounds like J. Last night he was in his high chair from 5:40 until 7:06. I was like COME ON KID!

  • I wish I could get half of that time with R. He gets so bored with his food. He will eat it, but after 10 max 15 minutes he's like "I'm done. Get me outta this thing." I've tried all kinds of foods too and each one, even his favorites, ends up the same way. He just wants to crawl around. The grass is always greener.
  • Yes, at least an hour for every meal over here.  I have started giving him an "appetizer" banana in the morning in the living room so I can enjoy my coffee and watch the today show, lol.  I usually feed him his main course first, then let him play with his finger foods while I clean, eat myself, etc.  Feeding this kid really has started to take a significant portion of my day

This is Charlotte, except she spends the first 9.5 minutes pretending she won't eat and playing with her food. I just ignore it and leave the food on her tray. Then she daintily picks at a bit for two minutes and whines to get down.  She is most likely to actually consume food if I walk away into the kitchen.
