High-Risk Pregnancy

Re: (Untitled)

  • I recently had a series of pre conception MFM consultations to assess my options for a future pregnancy.

One of the docs was a big fan of using pessarys as a first line of defense or in addition to a cerclage.  He explained it to me as a support belt for the cervix and just provides some extra stability.  My understanding is that it is a pretty low risk intervention as well.   I went on to get a pre pregnancy transabdominal cerclage but if I were in your shoes I wouldnt hesitate to have the pessary placed.

  • The pessary is nonsurgical and immediately relieved the feeling of pressure I was having. I would recommend it.

  • I had a cerclage placed at 20 weeks and have had the cervical length checked like 8 times. Every measurement has been different - it varies from 1.7 (my cervix length pre-cerclage) to 3.5. They say that some cervices can vary from measurement to measurement, which is not a concern. When they get concerned is when they see it drop below the length prior to cerclage placement. Hope that helps!
