I didn't do it with DD#1 till she was 9 months old, but did progressive waiting for naps and night time. I would say that if she doesn't go to sleep in 30 min the nap is over. I plan on starting progressive waiting with DD#2 around 6 months.
I didn't use Ferber but a program that is very similar so my opinion is based on what information I have read and my experience. I think that if you are going with Ferber and going to let your LO cry it out then you have to do it for naps and bedtime. You can't let them learn to fall asleep on their own at bed time then rock them to sleep at nap time. This will confuse them and may lead to a lot more crying then necessary. As they say, consistency is the key. The naps will start out short but get longer eventually.
Some people who have read a lot of different information may be comfortable mixing and matching different programs and techniques. Do whatever you think will work best for you LO. I thought my LO would cry for hours the first night but it was only 55 mins. The next night it was less than 10. GL!
This definitely! We worked on night first, and we're done to just one wake up (usually between 5 and 6am - but I'll take it!). Naps are starting to improve as well, and I think it's because he's getting better at falling asleep on his own.
I disagree. Remain consistent. Going to sleep is going to sleep. If you are trying to teach new sleep associations (like you want your LO to sleep on her own without rocking) then I don't think you should be rocking her for naps. That is super confusing. We successfully did Ferber and started it for his night sleep, then continued the process for naps the next day. He instantly improved for naps the next morning.
I am on day 4 of sleep training using Ferber method and it has worked for us. The second night she slept through the night for the first time ever!
My girl is only 4 months, but a VERY mature 4 month old both developmentally and physically (she's almost 20 lbs). I wouldn't have used this method if she wasn't such a text book baby, but I knew it would work for her and I knew she was ready. I did it for both night time and naps. The only time I don't use it is when she's up in the night (which hasn't been every night since starting this). I use her soother and it takes about 30 seconds and she's out again. She's half asleep anyway, so I don't feel like I'm confusing her.
I can now put her in her crib totally awake for all naps and for the night and she babbles away to herself and is asleep before I know it (the longest was 8 minutes). I documented everything so I could see an improvement. The first couple of days were rough at times (cancelled naps), and then all of a sudden, they just get it!
I really tailored this program to fit my baby's needs and age, but I do think this works for certain babies. Good luck!

This is do reassuring. I know every baby is different but it's still nice to hear it worked for others. We're starting next weekend and I'm honestly terrified for the naps. We're gonna do a straight shot one night and start the next day with naps. Right now she's only a 30 minute cat napper allll day long so I have a feeling were going to have a lot of cancelled naps.....we shall see

totally agree with this. We did Ferber with DD when she was 9 months old, it took 2 days for her to get it for both naps and night. The key is be consistant for everything.
We don't really do Ferber but we have just kind of learned to differentiate between the "hungry" cry versus the "I'm just cranky" cry versus the "this is an emergency I'm freaking out come get me NOW" cry. When he's just woken up briefly and started fussing, we've given it about ten minutes and then he will often calm himself back down and drift back off to sleep. Ours has been a really easy sleeper, though.
