DD is 6.5 months old and we started trying out solids at 6 months. She has only had breastmilk to this point. She has been totally uninterested thus far. We have tried rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, avocado and sweet potato (over the course of the last two weeks...not a few days). We have experimented with before vs. after her bottle, and we get the same reaction. She just doesn't seem interested, and if we get some on her lips/in her mouth, she makes an "icky" face.
I know food is just "for fun" at this point and isn't meant to provide any real portion of their diet, but did anyone else's LO take a while to get the hang of solids? Any advice?
Re: Difficulties starting solids
Do you try to feed her during your regular meal time? Is she in her high chair?
We put DS in his high chair during our meal times for about 2 weeks before we started him on solids. At first, he was more interested in playing w/his toys, but gradually, he became interested in watching us eat.
I also found that if we eat at the same time, he's more interested, as he's imitating what we're doing.
He's been on solids for close to 3 months. Now at 7 months, he's totally DISinterested in being spoon-fed, so we switched over to BLW.

My LO prefers purees that have been thinned with breastmilk and when it is warm-- I think the smell/taste is a little more familiar that way.
She guzzles those down-- when it is thinned with water and/or cold, she is not interested at all. She also will not tolerate lumps at this point, but I will keep reintroducing once a week or so.
