We pretty much did it all at once - naps and night.  But I would start with nights.  It sounds like he just needs to learn to soothe himself back to sleep.  It's amazing with a good nights sleep does.  Good luck!

  • So sorry Ash - it's so hard being sleep deprived. :( So start, are you sure he isn't teething or sick? Once you have ruled that out YES start with the sleep training!!!!

I would start with nights - it's hard but push through the first few days and it will be so worth it. Then I would tackle naps.

Good luck and we are here to help you drink your way through it!! :)

Thanks lady! Yes he is teething but not sick. I may just come up there and drink with you while DH stays here! Haha

  • I'd give him Motrin before bed since it lasts 8 hours so you know he isn't in pain when he wakes. Hopefully he will get it quick for you!!
  • We started CIO at night time and then 3 days later started CIO for naps. troublesometots.com helped me a lot for making the decisions on how and when to sleep train. Also, I would give Motrin right when he goes to bed so that it's not teething pain that he is waking for at night.
  • Griffin does not STTN while teething, even with motrin. I would definitely reccomend teething tablets and motrin. Last week Griffin had 2 teeth coming and it was every other night of sttn and up all night. Now this week since the tooth came through he has sttn the last 5 nights. It has been wonderful. How long do you let him cry before going to him? Griffin is one that sometimes fusses for 2 minutes and then falls right back asleep. For instance at 5:45 this morning I was just getting up and I heard him so I made a bottle, he had been sleeping almost 10 hours, and went in his room and he was back asleep. So I showered and got ready and at 6:40 he was still sleeping so I woke him up becuase I had to get him ready for daycare.

  • I don't know if this will help at all but last weekend was the final straw in my house.  DS was back to waking up about once an hour, falling asleep late, waking up at 5 am on the weekends.  I serioulsy felt like I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.  Then, two nights in a row, he jumped over me and I caught him by the ankle as he tried to sail off the bed and land on his head.

    Time for CIO in crib.

The first night was awful and he cried for nearly four hours.  He woke up at 2 am for the one bottle he still takes and then had to cry in his crib.

Night two was better, but he still had to CIO in the middle of the night a couple times and after his bottle.

Last night, he cried for about 15 minutes when we put him down but he STTN for the first time EVER.  He slept from 9 until 8:30 this morning.  I woke up twice because I was sure something was wrong, but he was fine.

Listening to him cry in his crib was brutal but I seriously had no idea he could sleep for that long and it is GLORIOUS.  I wish you the best of luck because I was at the end of my rope but I'm starting to feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it's not actually a train, it's an honest to goodness light!
