Just wondering...
This is something I was thinking about today. By way of example, I was always pretty liberal of my views toward gay marriage, but after having a child, it simply blows my mind to hear stories about parents who have a child that "comes out" to them and they shun that child, tell them they are going to hell or otherwise not be supportive of that child. Alternatively, I was always pretty ambivalent about abortion, but after having seen my little guy on multiple ultrasounds at 6, 8, 10, 12 weeks, etc. my views have changed. And my views on the healthcare system in our country HAVE definitely changed after IF and pregnancy!!!
I'm not trying to start a debate on any of my viewpoints. I'm just more interested to know if IF and/or being a parent have changed your views.
Re: Have your political/social views changed since going through IF or becoming a parent?
This exactly!
I told the babies "Mommy has to go to work because the government won't pay for our healthcare" heh.

IVF #1 April 2012: Menopur and Bravelle; 1 egg retrieved, 0 fertilized. Boo.
IVF #2 August 2012: Gonal-F 300, Menopur 300. Beta #1 9/6: 382... BFPx2!
Our boys couldn't wait to meet us! Colin and Kieran arrived March 26, 2013 at 33w1d.
Exactly this! Literally. My views haven't changed, but I definitely felt the effects of our crappy health care system paying for IF treatments.

Not sure where to go from here.
To some degree, yes. I've always voted pro-choice, but after struggling for so long and really appreciating what a gift life is, I am much more on the fence. Abortion is no longer black and white to me, it is a very grey issue. As a result I am more open to voting for ballot measures that put some limits on abortion.
And it makes me feel old.

Our perfect baby boys were born at 36w1d!!
Ditto to all of it. In fact I am even more pro-choice in light of the recent personhood legislation in various states that has been proposed primarily because of the potential impact that legislation could have on IVF/FET. Makes me sick.
I've always been pretty conservative in my views and that hasn't really changed. We choose to be careful during our IVF and not fertilize more eggs than we knew we'd use. Sometimes how cavalier women are over their frozen embryos saddens me.
I was also thankful for our healthcare system here in that I had access to whatever treatments I wanted unlike one woman I know in who was put on a waiting list having her uterine septum fixed and by the time she could have the surgery she was that much older and even less likely to get pregnant (and never did get pregnant.) My friend here in the US had her surgery within a matter of weeks, not over a year. I also knew of a woman who wanted to pursue the same treatments I had to help prevent a miscarriage but it was not allowed under their state run health system. So, the grass isn't always greener.
I'm not sure why infertility would change someone's views on something like gay marriage. I've always been in favor of it and that hasn't changed.
I tell my kids I work because the government makes me pay so much in taxes. Ha!
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
This Cluttered Life
Took the words right off the tip of my fingers ... yet I DO find myself feeling more conservative than usual when it comes time to pay our RIDICULOUS taxes, or when I would see people abusing the welfare system daily while I was teaching and when it comes to things like capital punishment .... but those all have nothing to do with IF, so I'll just stop right there
