We have been ferberizing for the last few days and I have read thousands of posts, books, sites etc on the subject. Nighttime is definitely improving but naps are still a major issue. I'm sure the problem is that DS has never napped in his crib, just rnp or swing etc. So maybe he doesn't associate crib with naps just night sleep. Anyone have any advice on what worked for them? Do I work on nights and worry about naps later? Or just keep trying. Poor thing needs to sleep so I give him the amount of time to try and then I just end up giving up for that period and he falls asleep somewhere else. Its just making for a very cranky baby when he is normally my little ray of sunshine.
Re: Sleep Associations
I know a lot of people had success with doing both night AND nap training together, but it didn't work for us. [And same as your LO, my DS was napping in the newborn napper in the PnP prior to training.]
We did night first. After a week or so when DS learned to fall asleep on his own, I started doing 1 nap/day in the crib. Those crib naps were bad - he'd cry a while before falling asleep, and would only nap for 20-30 minutes max. The other naps I'd let him nap in the carseat, or on me, and he would nap 2-3 hours that way! I figured he needed those long naps in order to function.
After another week when he started napping longer in the crib, I increased to 2 naps/day in the crib.
In any case, naps are difficult; it took at least 1 month to get easier, and it took another month or more before it was actually easy. Also, part of my problem is that I wasn't very good at ready his sleepy cues...

This! My pedi said to start with getting her to fall asleep on her own at night, then move to middle of the night wakings and then worry about naps after the nighttime sleep got better. We're still working on naps...it's much harder for us because she's in DC and they don't really pay attention to her sleepy cues so they put her down overtired. Good luck!
