Really Stupid Question

How do you get your baby to sit in the bath? I'm not sure if Chloe is keeping her legs too rigid or what is going on but when I sit her up in the bathtub it's like she floats. I go to set her down and she slides gracefully through the water on her bum forwards or backwards. If I let go she will slip and bump her noggin.

So I'm at a loss. I just lay her on her back in a shallow tub of water careful that it doesn't get in her ears and wash her that way,

Re: Really Stupid Question

  • they sell bath seats for babies with suction cups on the bottom. All they are good for really is keeping your baby sitting up in one spot while you bath him/her.  I just waited until DD was good at sitting up on her own, like putting herself into a sitting position.  When she could do that, and when she started pulling up on stuff, I got rid of the bath seat.

  • DS takes baths in a laundry basket with a bath mat on the bottom to keep him from the sliding.  The downside is the mat and laundry basket enable him to pull up to his knees and splash with the water outside the basket.   I have to hold down the basket so he doesn't capsize.

  • A just sort of does it. I bought non slip strips for the tub but honestly I have yet to get them in since you have to wait 12 hours after installing them.

  • We use the inflatable duck tub. It isn't slippery on the bottom. Big enough to play, small enough he doesn't fall over or slip down.

  • He sits on a hand towel in the bottom of the tub. He has this thing about booty scooting around in the tub, so this prevents that.

I have tried the towel. Didn't work. I think I'd need a folded full sized towel for her.

I haven't tried the duck or laundry bin yet though, so those are next!
  • I use her infant tub, but without the hammock. There's a section to sit in on the opposite side of where she used to lie. I put the water up to her belly and put the whole tub inside my sunken tub. She does great and since my shower is right next to the tub, I can take a quick shower and still keep an eye on her. Now that she sits up, it's so much easier.

  • It's not a stupid question because I don't know the answer either.

This kid almost sends me into cardiac arrest every day in the bathtub.

  • We use a laundry basket in the tub. Work like a dream!
  • I put a FP tub in our big tub and put a towel on the bottom. I'm still afraid of them without nothing as we have 1950s tubs, hard!!!
