Hi All,
Just wanted to formally intro here and join you ladies! I was a regular TTC >35 poster and am really happy to be on the other side. It's been a tough road for me and my DH and after a loss last year, I've had a really hard time getting comfortable with this pregnancy. I don't feel like I will really feel good until after the first trimester. I know many of you can relate
We have opted for a CVS, which we are having in 2 1/2 weeks when I will be at 12 weeks. While it is scary and has risks, it is very important that we know and I'd rather know sooner vs later (why we are doing CVS vs amnio). I live in NYC and our practice has a lot of experience with CVS - at our hospital the risk rates are lower than national average and the risks are the same for CVS and amnio.
For those of you who have had the CVS I was wondering if you could share your experience. I'm honestly looking for some reassurance - we have read enough about the risks, so I'm looking for happy experiences

He first did an ultrasound to look for placement of the placentas so he can figure out how best to get the sample abdominal or through the cervix. Both my twins were done abdominally.
He first gave me a numbing shot at the sample site. Then stuck the sample needle in. It wasn't painful to me, just a bit uncomfortable. But the sample only took about a minute. I watched one of the samples being taken on the ultrasound. I took it easy the rest of the day and laid on the couch.
I had preliminary FISH results for the three major trisomies 13, 18, and 21 plus gender the very next day, which was a big relief. Full results in two weeks.
I am a need to know person and that's why I went with CVS since Maternity 21 wouldn't work on twins. Also my previous loss was due to trisomy 13, and that haunted me for a long time. I wouldn't judge anyone who wants to do amino or CVS since its so personal and everyone has their reasons for doing it. Good luck to you and I hope you get awesome results!
