  • The whites are the allergen so it is possible that your LO is allergic. Sometimes when egg, or dairy are cooked into something, it doesnt effect the person as much. It depends on the severity of the allergy.

  • That's how it was with my daughter and shell fish. No hives just red.
I would just wait till he's a bit older to try again. It only took a coupler months after a yr and the intolerance was gone.

  • That's what I'm hoping, that if I wait a bit he will be fine.  We eat a ton of eggs/egg whites around here, it would be a PITA if he was allergic.

  • Contact rash, not an allergy. It's okay for him to eat them.

Ds reacts this way when he has tomatoes, but he still eats them.

  • The first time I gave DS1 eggs, it was around this age and it was scrambled eggs.  He got rashy red around his mouth that went away within 15 min or so.  Another time I gave him pancakes and he again got the rash.  No other symptoms.  But he never got rashes from baked good like cookies and muffins.  I mentioned this to his pedi at the year check up and she referred us to an allergist.  We were to not give him eggs til that appointment.  At the allergist they did the scratch test and he was indeed allergic to eggs.  They gave us a Rx for an epipen and were told to stay away from things like scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, mayo etc but he could eat eggs that were in baked goods and have gone through the oven.

We just had his recheck allergy appointment a few weeks ago and the scratch test came out negative for eggs!  Yay!  The allergist said egg allergies are usually one that LOs grow out of but its still something that should be checked out.  He needed a blood test to comfirm the negative and now the last step is forb the Food challenge.  Once hes done that, they'll confirm him egg allergy free.  Phew.

So, even though your LO had a mild reaction to eggs now, the next reaction may be more severe, according to our allergist who told me this last year.  We stayed away from eggs and still kept the epi pen with us everywhere we went.  If I were you, I'd keep LO away from eggs for now until your next pedi appoitment.

  • Thanks for all the info!  I'm going to stay away at least until I talk to his pedi.
