Do you have "the book?"

It seems like every time I tell someone I'm pregnant they ask me if I have the "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book. I don't have it, or any other books like it. I do get weekly and almost daily emails telling me what's going on that week, and have the WTEWYE app that I look at as well. Am I missing something? Is this like some secret must have? Don't tell me I am a bad mom already?!?!?!

Re: Do you have "the book?"

  • I had it last time and it didn't tell me anything I didn't already learn from the internet.

  • I have it but never opened it not once.
  • I had it the first time and it scared the shiit out of me.

  • I think it's just because it's one of the most popular pregnancy books. I got the book when we got our BFP, but you can get a lot of the info online nowadays. It's just nice because it goes month to month and answers a lot of general questions.

  • Everyone I talked to told me that book wasn't helpful. I got one by the Mayo clinic instead, and have the app on my phone from WTE. Honestly, I feel like the app just feeds me info I can find myself with a quick google search. I did get The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnacy, which gave me some laughs more than anything else.

I was given a used copy if WTE: the First Year, and I've enjoyed that as a FTM.

  • I bought it when we first got the BFP, mostly to get myself in the pregnancy mindset. It's not essential but it's nice to have the information in one place. If you feel your good thus far without it, I say you don't need it. I read it at first and then forgot to continue each week. Just do research on what you want to know, and you're well off!
  • My sister got it for my birthday which was just a few weeks after I found out I was pregnant. I read the chapter that corresponds with where i'm at when it's happening. But ya, nothing great about the book.
  • I got mine for $1 at a garage sale last summer.  Nothing in it that has been really helpful.  I felt like I already knew a lot of it, heard it from friends, or came across it on the internet.
  • Eh. Read it the first time around, the only parts that are interesting (to me) were what is happening with baby each week. Other than that, it seems like a lot of scary information that rarely happens. My doctor even told me not to get freaked out by it. Now everything is readily available online, so I don't think it's necessary...

Also I read NOTHING after DS was born, who has time?!

  • I don't have it but if you have Amazon Prime it is in their lending library for free if you want to check it out.
  • I have it from my first pregnancy but there are definitely better books out there.
