How do u know?

I am currently BFing with some formula supplement. Lately she has been spitting up and having lots of gas and discomfort and it got me thinking, how or when do you know if they need soy formula? I've tried a couple different kinds and right now we are using enfamil gentelease. She only gets 1 or 2 formula bottles a day. Just seems like she should be spitting up and have so much gas with the majority of Breast milk.... Any thoughts, or same experience?

Re: How do u know?

  • Was she gassy before you started supplementing? Reason I ask is because DS was as well and it ended up being a dairy sensitivity... since I eliminated almost all  dairy & stopped supplementing (sometimes I forget and catch myself after having a cheeseburger lol) he's right as rain again. I realized that the formula is milk based which might have made him fussy also. maybe try to find a formula that isn't milk based..

  • I started supplementing around week two because the doctor wanted her to be gaining more so its kinda hard to say if she was gassy before. Do I mean u cut out eating dairy yourself? And use a soy formula?
  • I cut out dairy myself and haven't tried a new formula yet, maybe soy would help. I think it's all a matter of trial and error. I think dairy sensitivity is very common in small babies. I noticed after I cut out dairy and as soon as I started giving him formula that he was right back to crying and having terribly painful gas, so I got to investigating and looking at the can of Similac Supplementation and it says it was milk based. since cutting that out hes been right back to normal. :) hope this helps. also, this link was really helpful.
