My husband and I decided from the beginning that Father's / Mother's day was going to be more about gifts from the kids rather than monetary value. For Mother's Day I got to sleep in both days on the weekend and got breakfast in bed and got my favorite meals cooked for dinner. For me, that was the best present I could have received! For Father's Day I'm framing a photo of him and our LO in their 49ers gear when she was a month old for him to put up in his "man cave". He's a huge sports fan, so I figured this could be a good addition to his wall. He doesn't have an office to display photos or I'd make something for that. And I told him he gets to decide our schedule for the weekend. How long he gets to sleep, what meals he wants me to make / where he wants to eat, etc.
I did these DAD pics, and I have a frame with three slots to put them in:
I'll pair this with a small gift. His bday is a few days after FD, so I'm not sure what's going for which holiday, but he's probably getting a new BBQ cookbook. We're also going to brunch with FIL and his wife.
For Mother's Day, DH gave me a framed pic of the kids at a local park, a gc for a pedicure and he made a really nice bfast for me and MIL. We aim for thoughtful, but not breaking the bank.
I like getting gifty gifts and then tying them into Father's Day (or whatever holiday it is).
I got DH a Kindle Fire HD, and I got several baby apps so he and DS could "play" them...or, since I got him baby books, so he could read to DS from the Kindle.
