First Dinner Date!

DH and I had our FIRST dinner date since DS was born - last night. SS graduated from HS, and we got up there with enough time to have a dinner date (there were no pre-grad activities). I feel like I waited forever for that date night! We were of course dressed for graduation, so it really felt datey, and DH made a reservation at this cute little nonchain family run restaurant. The food was fabulous but connecting with my husband was priceless.

We need to do that more often.

A couple friend of ours had a LO 3 months after us, so we do date swap nights. I watch their LO while they go out, and visa versa; we try and do it once a month.

We have only been out on a few dates but usually it is drinks, dinner, and an activity. We also try to meet up with friends for drinks, bowling, pool, etc.

DH is gone frequently (roughly half the year) so we have decided that while he is home we are getting a sitter every Friday night in order to catch up and make sure our marriage stays strong.

We do a date night twice a month at the very least. It's hard for us though we usually talk about the kiddo or work.

We are trying to get better about the focus being on us.

When my son was 10 days old my Mom handed me a hundred dollars and kicked my husband and I out of the house. We were so broke (maternity leave hadn't kicked in) we went to the grocery store and then went to a cheap dive bar and drank beer and hot wings. Blissful!

We try to go once a month, though it depends on when we can get a free sitter. With H in school we can't justify spending money on a sitter and a night out. Last month we had a nice date at home after she went to bed. We grilled steaks and zucchini, and ate a nice dinner with wine while she slept. It was nice.

My mom usually offers to babysit at least once a month. So we drop DD off, go to dinner, run any errands or go to Target/Home Depot, and then pick her back up.

We have only had 2 since 2/12. But this convo just came up last night with h. We are going to try and get back to once a month. We did that before Delaney was born. Since she sleeps a bit better we are hoping to do a night away soon. Before laney we used to occasionally go to a nice hotel downtown and have drinks and stay the Night. We don't have a lot of family help so most likely it will have to be paid.

I so miss hotel dates! I feel like we will never ever spend the night without DS. With my first, it was easier. With my second, I was divorced very quickly and things levelled out so he had the girls some weekends. With the third, and my mom unavailable to assist due to my Dad's health and my sister a mess with her own family, I really feel like we are drowning in children. Factor in my ex has not had the girls for an overnight in 4 months and UGH seriously, I feel like we cannot even get time alone after the kids are in bed because by the time the nine year old is ready for bed so am I. I think I need to make soup for dinner sometimes and redistribute those funds to a paid, monthly sitter - at minimum! Now, we have to find one.
