sleep training in conjunction w/magic sleepsuit

Has anyone tried sleep training while using the magic sleepsuit?  Ds has a range of sleep problems, and we have been working through them with a pediatric sleep nurse.  We are making progress, but she would like to wean him from the sleepsuit before we work on sttn (he is up every 1-2 hours still).  It is not working, and the more I try to take the sleepsuit away, he actually starts to regress from the progress we have made.  I am wondering if it is too early to wean him from the sleepsuit (he just turned 6 months), and if we can allow him to cry for brief periods in his crib with us helping soothe  (similiar to camping out method) while he is in his sleepsuit. I guess my only concern is whether it is mean to have him cry while his movements are somewhat constricted by the sleepsuit.

  • You might as well wean him while you are doing all of this sleep training.  If you teach him to sleep in the suit now, you will have to go back in a few months time and re-do all of his training when he's out of the suit.  That part, I think, is confusing to him and unnecessary.  By 6 months he is no longer startling himself awake and should be just fine in a sleepsack.

  • We did some sleep training with the sleep suit. The pressure of the suit comforted him and he was NOT ready to be out of the suit.

After we had fixed the sleeping stuff more or less, we weaned from the sleep suit. He was older and was okay without it. I think it was developmental for him and he wasn't quite ready.

It could go either way: he good do well with all the changes at once, or he could find comfort in changing one thing at a time. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer.

Yup. We got off the paci while doing Ferber. I was scared but it worked & she hardly ever wants one now.

  • If your going to start sleep training I would do it all at once. When we sleep trained we took away the paci, swaddle and swing all at once. I think it is going to be an adjustment no matter what and at least you are only putting through the distress of sleep training once.
