Totally new topic...a lady who lives two doors down from me is pregnant and due around the same time that I am (another neighbor told me our due dates are within about 1 week of each other). Our neighborhood is fairly new so her family has only been in their home about 6-8 months and we've been in ours for about a year. I've never really spoken to her or her family though keep thinking I should go and introduce myself if I see them outside. We do wave to her family when we see them outside and they always wave back. I enjoy crocheting and have made a few baby blankets for my little one. I was considering making a baby blanket for her little one and bringing it over and introducing myself. I thought it could be a nice gesture and hopefully our children will grow up to become friends. Seeing as I don't even know the woman's name, is my idea really kind of odd? Would you feel uncomfortable if a neighbor you had never met who was due around the same time did something like this? I don't want to put her ill at ease but would like to get to know her better and have a potential future playmate for my baby.

Re: Would it be inappropriate...
Give it a try with or without a gift. A neighbor 3 doors down is due 8 weeks before me. No gifts, but she gave us her and her husband's phone numbers and e-mails. Another neighbor is a nurse and said to knock on her door if I have an urgent pregnancy problem.
My DH and I moved into our house 28 weeks ago (on the first day of my pregnancy actually). Neighbors have not been shy about walking up and knocking on our door to introduce themselves. I've been glad to get to know the neighbors.

I think a baby blanket is a lovely gift. I think she would be the odd one if she was taken a back by such a kind gift. I would love it, if a neighbor/fellow pregnant woman welcomed me to the neighborhood like that.
I hope it's the start to a nice friendship!
I wish you were MY neighbor! What a nice and thoughtful gesture.
I say do it! Who doesn't want a new friend? And someone who is going to have a baby, too! That's awesome!
