So, Jackson has been saying "mama" and "dada" for a couple of months but i always chalked it up to "eh, he doesn't know what he's saying "
Then, my cousin, who had an Oct '12 baby, just wrote on FB "baby just said his first word, "daddy" while looking at me wearing glasses!" And everyone's freaking out.
Waaahhh! Can our kids "talk"? Am i being neurotic?

He will point at us when he says it and every time he gets a ball or sees a ball he starts squealing and saying "baa". I didn't think too much of it until my dad pointed it out and sure enough he is saying ball!
I was like you and never thought kids were "talking" mainly because DS1 didn't! Cortlandt didn't say mama or dada until he was 2 and a half years old!
I wouldn't be able to tell you at what point either of mine said their first word that actually counted. Neither of mine say words clearly but what they say sounds close to what they want to say. Like Emma says "tss" if she sees you are taking a picture so we count it as her saying "cheese". She also says "ba" for bye. Liam is obsessed with balls and wakes up asking for his "baw." it's funny because he started off saying "ta" for the Spanish word pelota but I guess ball is easier to say! I have yet to hear a clear "mama" from either of them unless they are upset or yelling :P

Lilah says Momma only to me or when she wants out of her crib.
She says:
Kitty or Hi Kitty...sounds like Hi Key
Dog or Hi Dog...sounds like Hi Daw.
She says thank you.
She says ooooh baby. lol
i think thats it....
And yesterday she started this new thing where she holds the remote to her ear and says ha dada like she is trying to say hi dada
I think our babies are definitely talking. It's so sad
Audrey has a few words that she uses consistently, without prompting, though pronunciation isn't quite yet perfect...
hat (she gets SUPER excited when she sees anyone wearing one),
that (points to what she wants),
up (sounds like uck, when she wants to be picked up,
down (when she wants down)
dada,
doggy (sounds just like dada, unfortunately),
hi (she'll look at you and say it while waving),
and ball (sounds like 'gaw' but she says it when she sees balls and other roundish things, including an egg i got out for breakfast this morning).
