Gift to myself

Since separating from XH, money has become instantly easier.

I am paying all my bills on time again. I am paying back my parents.  I have one lawyer paid off and I'm about to pay off my other.  I am putting money into an investment fund.  The CO money is going into a college fund.  I have enough money left over to buy casual and work wardrobe clothes and any need I have for DD.

I really have no financial stress anymore.  Money is not flowing, and I am most certainly on a budget and not spending frelly, but it's good.  Overall it is an amazing the difference from the financial burden that XH and his kids had become.

So I thought it time I spoil myself a little. I got a nice little bonus check from a manufacturer who's product I sell. This is an extra perk - it's not part of my regular salary, commission, or bonus plan.  I splurged on an ipad that I've been wanting and waiting on for some time now.  It arrives today.  I am actually feeling a little guilty. I could have paid off my lawyer. I could have given that entire check to my parents to help pay them back.  I could have invested it.  Maybe I should have. Then again...it's been a long time since I've splurged on something really nice for myself.  Maybe it's time and I just I get over it and maybe just this once....

The next big fat check I can go back to being responsible again.

Right?

LOL!  Obviously I need a little validation here.

  • Good for you (= It sounds like you needed a little something for yourself.

I'm a SAHM and just cleaned out my savings for an attormey but any money I get goes to buying SD's clothes and when I do buy a tshirt or anything for myself I feel bad.. lol.

  • It sounds like you've been very responsible with your money, so I don't have a problem with your little splurge! I do that for myself once a year. Either on my birthday or for Christmas I buy myself one gift that I would not normally buy. This year, I bought myself a new laptop for my birthday. It cost $500. I felt a little guilty, but as a student, I justified the need for one. As long as you're taking care of responsibility, one gift every once in a while is ok!

  • You deserve it! I've found that I'm much better at saving if I don't feel like I have to cut out everything fun. You are obviously making smart decisions so don't feel guilty. Plus IPads are awesome!

  • Well that was stupid of me to feel guilty.  I have it. It's set up. I'm in love.

Can you be in love with a peice of technology??

    I am.

  • Oh boy do I get this!  It was like I got a raise when I divorced exh.  The only downside here is DH just does not get why frankly, I could care less if exh pays CS.  I have SO much more money for me and the girls without his insane spending that the net is so much more than CS that it is worth it.

  • I definitely think you deserved a treat. I just ask that you don't forget to pay back your parents bc I feel like grandparents to children of separated homes often maternal grandparents end up taking on a financial burden to help raise their grandkids and they're never thought of in the child support obligations! Just food for thought. I hope you're enjoying your treat!
  • Yay!!! You'll love yours.  I love mine. : )
