Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Fussiness

DD is 7 weeks and has been a difficult baby from the start.  She was diagnosed with reflux 3 weeks ago and also had terrible gas since birth.  She is on reflux meds now and I cut dairy out of my diet which has made a big difference but she is still super fussy.  The only time she isn't crying is when she is nursing, sleeping, or when she's moving.  I so badly would love to just cuddle with her on the couch without her crying non-stop.  For those who had a fussy baby when did it start getting better for you?  I'm hoping this phase ends soon.

Re: Fussiness

  • Personally, I didn't have this issue. But for many of those that I know, they saw an improvement around the 12th week. Hang in there mamma, it will pass. My mom said all I did for the first three months was cry and scream, but by the 3rd month I was a much easier baby. I'm sure it's different for everyone, but it will pass at some point.

  • Yes around 3 to 4 months. I did all the things you said you've had to do. Some helped a little but I think he just grew out of it.

  • I went through this exact same thing!! Hang in there! It is hard for others to understand how difficult it really it but the medicine should help a lot! We are now starting to phase out the medicine at 7 months and she has never been happier.

I used a sling or baby Bjorn a lot so I wouldn't get so worn out holding her when she had to move. Also, once she started solids, there was a huge improvement!

Good luck! You'll get through it!
  • I agree with PP hold your baby as much as possible (in a carrier or your arms).  All you can do is try to comfort her.  They say 3-4 months and they grow out of it.  My son still has reflux, we are still on meds but he is getting so much better.  It gets easier (peaks at four to five months and goes downhill).

  • My DD cried a lot too. We had lots of issues with breastfeeding and vomiting. She was so super fussy. It got better at 14 weeks. Hang in there! I swear it gets better. She's a totally different baby now.

  • I'm sure we aren't the norm but after taking out eggs, dairy soy to eliminate bloody stool, the gas and misery were still there. Something just didn't seem right. I finally took out gluten at 6 months and he is a completely different child.
