My girls had their six month wcc today, and our pedi prescribed Fluoride supplements because we have well water. I thought Fluoride was on the "no fly" list these days? I googled, and aside from one article from the CDC, I didn't find much. Does anyone here have any helpful info?
Re: Fluoride?
Our pedi told us to start giving LO some water for the fluoride as well. I honestly haven't really researched it since we wanted to introduce a sippy cup and give him water anyway.
Sorry, I'm no help!
I read this article recently and found it interesting.

My twins are 6 months.
We have well water, so there is no fluoride in it at all, from what I understand.
Unable to even.

I'm still confused on the fluoride issue, as well.
We do have fluoride in our water, but typically use purified water for the kids.
DD has a children's toothpaste with fluoride in it.
But, my very earthy, hippy MIL is VERY anti-fluoride. I really have never wanted to get into the conversation with her, but she has said in passing that fluoride is the debbil.
I haven't had it tested. I should probably look into it though. How did you get your water tested? Did you take it to your city, or hire a private company?
In most places, whenever water IS fluoridated, it is at a ration of one part per million. Just putting that out there.
My BIL is the same way. He even went as far as buying a filtration system for his shower so he wouldn't have to bathe in fluoridated water. I've never asked more on the subject, but I know he's strongly against it.
The problem comes in where places with a NATURAL level of fluoride in the water is higher than 1 ppm. In addition, when the drinking water is heated to a high temperature in certain areas of high elevation, the natural fluoride increases. This is where you see fluorosis.
Something to remember is that many of the nursery water brands add fluoride to the bottles. Those bottles should not be used to mix formula in kids under six months old.
Finally, for your hippie friends and family, home filtration devices are notoriously terrible at removing fluoride. So, don't worry too mch about their kids' teeth from that perspective. I worry a lot more about them not having fluoride in their toothpaste. I also worry about kids who only drink bottled water and aren't getting the fluoride they need.
