Nailed my girl name, still struggling with the boy name

Hailey Rayne is my girl name, I have had this name picked out since I was seven and DH fell in love with it right away.

We have two contenders for the boy name:

Joseph Alexander, DH middle name as the first and the male version of my first as the middle.

Skylar Logan, DH loves the name Skylar, so I found the manliest middle name I could think of so incase Skylar or "Sky" is to "feminine" once he gets older.

 Opinions?

Re: Nailed my girl name, still struggling with the boy name

  • I don't really like Skylar for a boy, it seems too feminine to me. Joseph isn't bad, although I like the middle name Alexander better.

  • haha Logan is the manliest name you could think of? That made me laugh.

Skylar is feminine even now and shouldn't be followed by a name beginning in L because of the sing-song effect it has.

Joseph Alexander is a respectable name and so much better than Skylar Logan. I have my fingers crossed that you have a boy since Hailey Rayne is nms.

Thanks, also, what does nms stand for?

  • I strongly prefer Joseph Alexander.

Skylar Logan isn't terrible, but I guess Logan doesn't scream manly to me.  I realize it's a boy's name, but it's a softer boys name IMO.

I would maybe pair Skylar with a traditional boy's name.

  • I love Schuler/Skylar/Skyler any way you spell it for a boy. I don't think it's to girly. After all it originated as a male name. I say go for it.

Yikes, Joseph Alexander by ten thousand miles. Skylar is all girl to me. And Logan is the most masculine middle name you could think of?? I think both Joseph and Alexander are more masculine.

Love the girl name, I had a little girl in my class last year and that was here first and middle name.

As far as the boy name, I like Joseph Alexander :).

    Skylar is feminine even now

Schuyler (the original spelling of Skyler) is 100% masculine.

Skyler is twice as popular for boys than it is for girls.

Skylar is twice as popular for girls than boys.  Apparently spelling matters?

I agree with Joy. I like Skyler (I would spell it this way). I have never met a female Skyler. It's actually more common for boys where I live. I have met girls named Sky(e).

As far as Logan is concerned I think it is all boy. It seems like a very masculine name to me. I guess people have an issue with it because people are slapping it on girls. Oh well. It's a boy name...and honestly no boy name is safe anymore.

  • Joseph Alexander. If you have to use Skylar, use a manly name like William. Try to think of how your child would feel with that name as CEO of a company. Would they be embarrassed? Would they choose to be addressed by their middle name? That's how I try to think about it.
  • Joseph Alexander by a mile.

  • I like them both OK.  I wouldn't pair Skylar with Logan since they're both being used so much for girls right now (I prefer them on boys though).

How about Skylar Joseph or Skylar Alexander?  Or similar to Logan--Skylar Brogan.

Skylar Brody, Skylar John, Skylar Pierce, Skylar Grant, Skylar Charles, Skylar Matthew, Skylar Nicholas, Skylar Owen, Skylar Zane, Skylar Ethan.

  • Logan is def. unisex these days jsut FYI     Skylar Joseph/Alexander would be way more masculine      I picture Skylar much more on a little girl so I would

    chose Joseph Alexander- great name

  • I like them both. Also, I don't see Skyler (or Skylar) as feminine at all. Definitely masculine. But then, I admit I don't like it when girls hijack boy's names (ie Madison, Addison, Emerson, various other names that end in "son")
