Success after IF

From boob to bottle......

Hello ladies!

I need some help..... I am going back to work July 1 and need to get LO more comfotable with a bottle between now and then.

Up until now she has always taken them on an as needed basis.... However this past weekend she refused twice (once from my sister and once from a friend) and would only take from daddy.

I have also never given her a bottle, which I know I have to start doing since her feedings are going to drastically shift from almost exclusively  boob to a lot of bottles.

So, what's the best way to approach this??I would appreciate any insight and tips as I'm starting to get super anxious about getting her adjusted before daycare (even though she doesn't start there until July 22nd, I will not be with her exclusively once I go back to work so she'll still be getting more bottles.)

THANK YOU!

So, I don't really do anything. She had taken a few bottles here and there, so I knew she was capable. And she took then like a champ at DC from day one. That's sort of my thing, don't stress about something unless you have to. And I really didn't want to miss any chances to bf her knowing she would be getting more bottles once she started DC. It worked for us.
On the bf board, a lot of the girls say to give a bottle once a day or once a week to maintain the ability. A lot of babies won't take a bottle from mom bc they woul rather drink from the tap.

  • My business is super busy right now and my mom is watching dd.  Previously, DH was the only one to give her bottles ( other than our tongue tie problem resolved by day 10).  I don't give her bottles, just other people. She is fine! It took awhile for DH to get her going on the bottle, but he made sure to practice when she ws hungry.

Make sure you you tube "paced bottle feeding" if you want to have your LO shift back and forth between boob and bottle. Use only the slowest flow nipples.  Good luck!

  • I agree with everyone else.  When she is hungry enough, she'll eat!  Neither or my kids ever had a problem going from boob to bottle though so maybe I'm not much help.

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies!

i have a baby shower Saturday so that's the perfect day to start DH giving her at least one bottle a day consistently!

I am still thinking at some point she's going to have to take a bottle from me because I do think we will eventually switch her to formula....but we will take it one step at a time!
