Okay ladies. What is everyone doing for Father's Day? Is it your first Father's Day? If not what have you done in previous years?

I'm so petty. All MH got me for Mother's Day was a card, so I don't even want to get him anything. And besides, anything he wants he just buys for himself. Am I terrible for not getting him anything other than a card? Mh feelings were so hurt that he didn't get me a gift for my first Mother's Day. So I really should get him something so he doesn't have to feel that way. But I don't want to because I'm immature like that!

I need to shop after the next feed because then we are out of town for my exam and get back late Saturday. I was thinking of getting stuff to do footprints and frame them. And maybe a new BBQ cover.... HELP!!

DH didn't get me anything either. He did a lot that weekend so I barely lifted a finger but we had just had a conversation about me being the one to do everything so I don't know what to make of it.

I probably won't get him anything, he's not a big gift person anyway. I asked him and his answer was sex so he's easy to please. I may send him off to go fishing for the day alone though.

This makes me think about the 5 love languages book. Maybe people also give gifts in the way they want to receive them. My DH is super low key and laid back about gifts when it comes to receiving and giving. If I really want something I have to say, "Hey! _______ is what I want for my birthday." He always gets something but it wouldn't necessarily be on the same level I was thinking.nbsp;

I did tell him exactly what I wanted! Still nothing.

I got him a small camera bag for his SLR. He has a big backpack, but he had been mentioning that it would be nice to have a small bag for just the camera body and one lens. I also got him a set of nice barbell collars for his CrossFit gym in our garage. He did get me something for Mother's Day, but it did take some encouragement to start celebrating these two holidays Wink

I am lucky though - my husband has always been a really great gift giver.

We usually are big on this sort of stuff, especially since this is the first for both of us. So I am making up DH a grill basket filled with all sort of fun stuff. I'm going to throw in some good beers and a gift certificate for a steak house so the 2 of us can go out at some point (hey, that benefits me, too!). I also plan on letting him sleep in and making him breakfast in bed - his favorite meal!!

ETA: I found a spatula on etsy that says "we flippin' love you" so I had to get it for his basket! And I'm going to try and do a platter with DS's handprints on it...let's see if I get to that before Sunday.

DH and I had a conversation before mother's day about skipping out on buying each other presents. It's just too much anymore! Birthdays, Christmas, Valentine's Day, anniversary...you mean there's ANOTHER reason to have to buy each other crap? Seriously though, it's just not for us. So, no, I will not be getting him anything. No card either. I think cards are a waste of money because we throw them out after a few days. I veto cards (geez, aren't I just the sweetest thing).

We decided that we will use Mother's/Father's days to do something we want to do. It can be together as a family or seperate - totally the choice of whose day it is. Mother's day we went wine tasting...father's day is still up in the air. I suggested last night that he go out with his buddy for lunch and drinks. We'll see what he ends up doing.

We normally do gifts for birthdays and Christmas only. We decided for our anniversary every year we would take a trip whether it be somewhere local or far away. This year we couldn't go because H was only 12 days old and I was still sore from the c/s. Since this is our first Mother's/Father's day, I wanted to do something special then leave it alone the rest of our lives.

I did it too, only had each of the boys holding a "D" and the two of them holding the "A." So, they have an individual pic and a together pic in the frame. I think the photos are adorable and DH will love it!! I think I'll find a little electronic thing from me as well. DH has been kinda down about work and won't really tell me what he'd like to do for the day. I think I'll just bake him some cookies or something, which is a once a year (or even less frequent) event.

My husband is calling the shots and wants to go to a car show then out for custard .... fine by me!

I did a photo thing where I wrote, "We love Dad" on their feet and made it into a card. Then I had a desk organizer and mouse pad made for his office with pictures of the kids. Nothin' spec, but we don't really go all out for these holidays so it works!

Update: I got some books for DH and LO to read together and the BBQ cover. We are now having an out of town guest for dinner that day so DH is going to have to participate in cleaning and cooking.

TJ, I'm so sorry YH didn't get you anything special for Mother's Day, esp after you told him what you wanted. Some men are just so clueless, like MH too, they somehow didn't think it's a big deal. BUT IT IS!!! Esp after all that we've gone through!

I knew MH wasn't going to do anything, so a few days prior, I asked him what he was getting me for Mother's Day. He got all stressed out (and upset at himself) for not having planned anything, except perhaps pancake for breakfast. I cried, and then I explained to him that even if it's not a big deal to him, it IS a big deal to me, after all that I've been through to get here (ie, IF treatment, a gazillion vag u/s, a gazillion needle sticks, all the anxiety/insomnia during pg, and the crazy first months pp... he just needed a reminder of what I went through). In the end, he got me a new garden hose setup. Doesn't sound like much, and it didn't cost much, but the fact that he got his act together and fixed up the much-hated old garden hose system was enough to make me forgive him.

Sorry this is getting so long, but some men just need to be reminded and told how much we've sacrificed, and how much we'd like to be appreciated!

Anyway, for Father's Day, I kind of lucked out - 1) friends are inviting us over for brunch on Sunday, so I don't need to make him a special b'fast. and 2) In the mommy-and-me class I'm taking w/M, we did an art project on Monday for Father's day. It has a Father's Day poem w/M's hand print & foot print on it, then rolled up and put inside a bottle, plus a little sand inside. It's "Father's Day Message in a Bottle" present.

I'll still get him a card, and buy him his favorite beer. I will bake some Trader Joe's croissants on Saturday morning, and cook him something special for dinner on Sunday night. (I cook every night already, but I'll make something fancier than usual.)

This year is our first Mother's/Father's Day. H got me a beautiful card for Mother's Day and while I would have liked a present or something, I cut him a little slack bc L was born 7 days earlier. However, he still should have had his act together and planned ahead! lol Oh well, my bday is next month.

Anyway, for FD I have a whole surprise weekend planned. I am going to pick up his favorite donuts on Saturday morning and then we are going to pick out a new TV (we have been talking about this for a while so I figured this weekend would be a good one to go pick it out). Then we may drive up to Boston to go to a burger place we say on Food Network (this is all dependent on how L does that day). Sunday, we are going out to an awesome breakfast place and then going to a minor league baseball game that afternoon (again if L cooperates). If we don't do the game, we will either go to the burger place on Sunday or I'll cook a nice dinner. I got him cards from me and L as well.

Ugh. I have no idea, but I have to do something good. DH bought me a first edition signed copy of Larry Hagman's autobiography. (He passed away last November). I'm a huge fan so this was a perfect present...and not cheap. I've got to come up with something quick.

I felt the same way for my 30th bday... I didn't get any flowers or anything that day, we ended up going to dinner then going to see the boys in NICU. It was only a few days after they were born, so I tried to be understanding but was still bummed he didn't plan ahead, and he felt bad about it. Blah!

This is our first Father's Day... And DH will be out of town!!! I'm having some chocolate covered strawberries decorated like sports balls delivered to his hotel "from the boys"... We are also buying tickets hopefully to see Book of Mormon, so that's part of his gift too.

We are going to see Thomas the train the day before Father's Day, so that will probably be the high point of the whole weekend, if you ask our 2 year old.

I need to buy him a new coffee grinder, but I haven't ordered it yet, so it will be a late Father's Day gift.

Lots of great ideas ladies. Maybe I can do a dad pic and get it framed by Sunday. I have a big cake project due Saturday though, and a bday party Friday night. Maybe he will just get his gift late.

Since this is our first mother/fathers day as parents I would love to do something nice for DH, however I am currently on unpaid maternity leave and money is super tight around here, so looks like he will only get a card.

He went way overboard and got me a ring with LO's birthstone for Mothers Day, so I feel really guilty about this, but will make it up to him down the road....I absolutely love my ring but wish he did not spend so much money.....he's pretty low maintenance with gifts so I don't think he'll feel too shafted. I told him we could do whatever he wanted that day or he could go golfing.....so far he said he wants to go to his sisters and grill out with them and then mentioned an obnoxiously large sized porterhouse.... So looks like I may not get off for free anyways. Haha

I'm so disorganized. We are under massive renovations and currently living out of suitcases at my parents house. Sigh.

The good thing is that we decided to do a low-key holiday for mothers/fathers day. I'm still lukewarm on the holiday given our struggles with IF. DH got me a card and a three photo frame of pics of J and myself. I figure I can copy and do something similar. SFIL was in town Mother'sDay weekend and he is an amazing cook, so DH was off the hook for food.

DH got me a really unique gift for the first mother's day. It's a letter book with a daughter when H grows up, so I had to step up to find an unique gift!

I found a story book photo idea from Shutterfly, so I made it. It turned out super cute, so I hope he likes it! The book is one of a kind, so he can read the book to H I am taking him to a brunch after our Sunday church then a couple's spa!!!

TJ, I am sorry your DH only got your a card What was he thinking!?!! I like the photo idea. You should tell him that your feeling was hurt though!
