123 Magic. Holy Crap

So DD was being sassy to me last night. I re-stated what it was that I asked her to do which was to pick up the toy she threw.  She started to sass me again and I held up one finger and said "1".  She crossed her arms and frowned at me.  I said "2", and she frowned even harder and stomped toward the toy, picked it up and put it away.

Holy.

Crap.

Thank you ladies. 123 Magic has begun and will be long standing in this home.

LOL!

  • Yeah that still works for my son because he does like to please. My DD will tell me to give away her toys rather than pick them up:

  • Yes! Works every time! Mommy success
  • I really love it.  I think my ped suggested it two or three times before I actually went and bought it - I wish I would have done it sooner.

  • Nice! This works for me sometimes with SD's but other times they would rather me throw them away! I don't really throw them away.. the toys go take a time out in the garage. lol

  • As I recall, the keys to making it work are consistency and neutrality. It also helps to have a meaningful consequence for the kid, which has proved to be the hard part w/ DS.

  • I will say that over time the neutrality feels like the parenting version of stuffing.  So sometimes, even though the meaningful punishment would be something I have to think about related to the infraction, time out in your room it is - just to give me a second to remain neutral.

I had the audio of this book, but never got around to listening to it.  But I have always done counting with my DD.. I usually started backwards... 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, works like magic :)
