Hi there,
I don't post a lot but do a lot of reading..I could use some help...
I have a beauitful 5 month old DD. Friday she was running a temp and throwing up. We brought her to the doctor who told us to bring her to the hospital. She's usually laughing and smiling and she was just laying there in a trance.
We brought her to the ER, they ran a bunch of tests and after throwing up everywhere and running a temp of 104.8 they found out she had a UTI. She was placed on antibiotics and we stayed overnight.
She's back to her giggly self now, eating and keeping it all down, no fever.
The pedi called this morning and told me she had an abnormal ultrasound and that they had found cysts in her right kidney. The left was fine. I had to call the urologist and make an appointment. I called and it takes 24-48 hours to review test results and to schedule one.
So now, my husband and I don't have many answers as to what this means, or what we may have to do. I'm trying really hard to just relax and wait and see.
Anyone else have this problem or know someone who has?
Thanks..
Jessica

Re: Cysts on baby's kidneys..
Also want to extend well wishes.
One of my girls has something called multicystic dysplastic kidney syndrome, and one of her kidneys is basically full of cysts and is completely non-functioning. She was actually diagnosed in utero when I was about 23 weeks pregnant (twins mean LOTS of ultrasounds, which proved to be valuable in this case!). It is freaky to think that my daughter has a non-functioning organ, but the good news is that you can live a totally normal life with only one kidney. She is on a daily dose of amoxicillin to prevent UTIs or other infections, and she needs to get monthly ultrasounds and meet with a specialist to monitor the kidney. So far, it has shrunk to about half of the size it was when she was born, and they are hoping that it just shrinks to the point that it just goes away. If that happens, there is no more risk for infection or other issues!
If it turns out that your LO has something serious, remember that she CAN live a normal healthy life with one kidney. I've com to realize how lucky we are- some kids have issues with their hearts, lungs, brain.... If my daughter is going to have a problem organ, I'm blessed that it is her kidney. It is still scary, but it could be something far worse!
I'll be thinking of you, and hoping that it is something small and easily fixable!
