Seriously, y'all, check your credit reports. Apparently some collections agency (Convergent Outsourcing) has reported me for a Time Warner debt from Dec. 2008 that I NEVER had. Texas Statute of Limitations is 4 years. They reported it 4 years after the debt supposedly occurred. This is going to be several days out of my life to deal with. Not happy.
Anyone have any tips on how to respond? It's only $229 (they are asking for $114), but it's the damn principle of the thing. I don't owe them anything. I called Time Warner directly to verify the debt and they will get back to me in the next few days. I KNOW I checked with the Time Warner office when I turned in all of my equipment when I moved in with DH in 2008. They said I didn't owe anything. I checked my online account a few months later and didn't owe anything. This is infuriating.
Re: Debt Collectors are effers.
Last winter we had a debt collector call our house and they would only ask for MH. Every time I'd insist they tell me who was calling, they'd hang up. I then said if you want any money from MH you'd better tell me who you are. The guy finally started talking, he said we owed 40 some odd dollars to the children's hospital. This made me want to laugh and be pissed because I would have gladly paid 40 dollars to have this douche quit calling my house 3 times a day.
I told him I would be paying the hospital directly and not him if I owed this money. I'm glad I told him this because when we called the hospital they admitted they were already paid but somehow still sent the bills to collections it was their error and they would fix it.
