Air mattress safe?

Any one know if air mattresses are safe to use? I have to use one for a month and the smell is driving me crazy ( the plastic smell) and all I can think about is the chemicals it must be giving off. Iv googled it but couldn't find any info. Thank you!

I can't imagine it no being safe. If the smell is getting to you, wipe it down with some warm soapy water, I do this with my bath pillow and it works wonders.

Safe, yes. Comfortable, not really. The plastic smell is just the same as an pool float as far as I remember.

I didn't know is it was okay to be breathing in the gas or whatever that the plastic gives off. It's brand new and smells very strong. Iv read that mattresses put chemicals in the air so I figured one made out of all plastic must give it off too

We can't know what materials your air mattress is made of and if those chemicals are safe to breath for 8 hours a day while pregnant. If it is driving you crazy, your body is telling you something. Do you have other options? Can you get a fan and/or leave the windows open to dissipate the fumes?

I don't expect anyone to know what materials it is made of. Just checked here to see if anyone had heard of this before, that's all. Thanks for all your suggestions

Usually they are made of vinyl and do release chemicals into the air phalates, I think. Same with pool floats and shower curtains. I would avoid using the air mattress if you can. Perhaps a futon or a camping thermarest type would suit you? Still not ideal, but less off gassing. We are facing this too, with our upcoming move.

We are planning a move to so have to stay else where while preparing the house... and found mold so were avoiding as much exposure as possible

I've been sleeping on an air mattress for the last 3 months because after some horrible roommates situations my bed got stolen. As far as I've been told, baby is just fine. I put a sheet over it and treat it just as a regular bed. Not comfortable - but eventually you adjust.

Just let it sit out until the "new rubber" smell airs off.
