No more inductions :

I've had inductions with my previous pregnancies and I LOVE THEM! I've only had my water break on me once I hated it. When my doctor shared that they no longer give them before 39 weeks I almost cried.... I've had successful births and I recovered in awesome timing so I don't understand this new rule... Or at least I don't want to lol What do you guys think?

Re: No more inductions :

  • Lawlz...

I think nonmedically necessary inductions before 40 weeks are a bad idea. I'm glad you had good experiences, but it's not something I would want for myself. It's best for baby to cook as long as possible. Elective induction is not something I want.

  • In Oregon they have recently passed a law making it illegal to induce before 39 weeks unless there's a medical reason for the induction. I'm really happy to see there are obs out there willing to join in this practice .

  • well i have not had an induction before 40 weeks before. i was induced my first preg but i was 42 plus weeks and my waters was low. but this is my 3rd preg and i am having a repeat csection and she wont do it before 39 weeks.. new studies show that the brain development of the baby continues up to 39 weeks so they dont like to bring a baby out unless med needed.. dont stress about it. i know you want to meet your little one but he or she will be here before you know it.. take this time to relax and rest as much as you can.. i know i sure am.. thos midnight feeding take a tole on me lol.

I think you're the exception and not the rule. Unnecessary inductions can lead to many complications for mother and baby that could have been avoided if the baby had been allowed to come when ready. I'm so relieved to hear that more OBs are starting to deny elective inductions and cesareans.

I agree. (I also agree with Prim that is probably MUD anyway.)

I just found out at 35 weeks that I may have to be induced for medical reasons, and it's not sitting well with me.  I obviously want the best for my daughter, so I'm to let my OB make that call, but it's not my ideal birthing situation.

ummmm yeah..I can't believe anyone would want to be induced.

  • I did not even know that was ever an option to be induced prior to 39w. My ob reccomended I get induced then because I have a big baby but I don't like that idea....I was able to carry ny other two babies overdue they were big.....9 5 and 8 7 but my bigger one did stress and have a bowel movement inside of me had to be put on oxygen after birth....so it makes me think twice...but would rather keep baby in longer and have have c sec if needed over inducement..even at 39w

  • I'm also a mother of 5 already in which 4 have been induced, so that would probably be why im comfortable with this procedure.

  • *grabs popcorn* this should be fun.

In reality, the March of Dimes is trying to push the "full term" date from 37 weeks to 39 weeks. https://www.modimes.org/pregnancy/pregnancy-39weeks.aspx

I also agree coming on this board and asking for sympathy because your OB won't grant you a convenient birth is a bad idea, especially when we have so many Mama's with preemies right now.

  • So what's wrong with being induced at 40 weeks if you want to be induced?

40 weeks is one thing, but OP wants hers before 39 weeks.

Nothing in my estimation. Its before 39 weeks that gets the side eye from me especially with no medical reason.

If she makes it to 40 weeks and wants an elective induction then eh, but I wouldn't do it.

  • I've had 4 elective inductions with no complications. one late 3 on time, 2 spontaneous water breakages leading to augmented labour as contractions didn't start. I look forward to my next induction as its already been pencilled in. I can prepare and be ready, and have proper care for my other children knowing full well my baby can come on its own before hand. We schedule for closest date to my edd combined with u/s dating and so far its worked really well and I expect it to be great again. The "earliest" I have been induced was 39w5d.

Still immune to tickers. Polite Canadian 99% of the time. SAHM of 7 soon to be 8. I read more than I post.

Yeah my question was to the OP. I should have clarified that.

I had pitocin and a cervical balloon immediately when my water broke because I wasn't dilated and had no contractions.  I don't consider that an induction because labor began on it's own
