Im sure it is different depending on where you live but does anyone know about how much this cost? Im interested but with the expense of our doula we cant really afford too much for this. Thanks :
Cost is an issue for us as well, so I've done lots of research and have decided to encapsulate my own. You might look into that online, it's really not that difficult if you are willing to be careful and have the right tools.
I'm in a pretty cheap area, and it seems to run around $200 or so.

It was $150 in my area. I agree though you can encapsulate your own. It does not seem to be difficult to do.
Thanks ladies I am going to talk to my Doula about it but I'm thinking I will do it myself. I just wasn't sure I would be up to it and my husband is Army so he may not be here, but after doing some reading it doesn't seem to difficult just kind of a long process.
oh my gosh. I didn't know what this was, but I just googled it. WOW...thats all I can say.
I actually thought this too at first but after reading about the health benefits I really like the idea. I had a lot of BFing issues with DS as well as baby blues so it would really benefit me I think.
Just a head's up that you might find that DIY doesn't save you much money. You'll want a good dehydrator that holds temperature well. You might get questionable results with a cheap one. People who do it in their oven often burn or overcook it. It's hard to keep a steady low temp with a conventional oven. Several tutorials I've seen show burnt strips, unfortunately.
Say you need to buy a dehydrator, a grinder (because you probably don't want blood products in your daily coffee mill), and capsules as a minimal shopping list, that's already $90 or so. If you want a separate cutting mat, ceramic knife, etc. Then you're over a $100 and you still have to do the work.
A lot of doulas do this at a discount if you hire them as your birth doula, so do ask her what her combined rate is (if she does it); i've seen around $100 as the additional fee, and up to $250 for the single-service fee.

oh good to know, yea the one i saw uses an oven at the lowest temp propped open but this is still new to me so im not sure what its supposed to look like. That's a good point though I guess once I talk to my doula I can weigh the options.
It's about $200-$300 in my area. I think I'll leave this up to the professionals Plus I'll be having a c-section and want the capsules as soon as I can get them so doing it myself would take too long.
In related news, can anyone tell me if there is a taste? Either when you swallow the capsules or possibly while burping? It won't stop me from taking them, just need to know if I should stock up on gum
I never noticed that they had a taste. I always took them with food which probably masked the flavor. If I remember correctly the TCM version has ginger and lemon in the capsule. I am assuming this may help with the taste.
