Obviously a glider seems to be more comfortable, but I love the idea of finding an old antique rocking chair that my husband can restore and we can keep in our family for generations. A rocking chair would definitely be less expensive as well.
Do you think a rocking chair would be close to as comfortable as a glider? I'm also concerned with space and how much a glider takes up...
Thanks!
Re: Glider or Rocking Chair?
Go try them both out in the store. I had a glider for my first two kids and I loved the ease of the rocking motion and the comfort of all of the cushioning. This time around I bought a rocking chair cause I didn't want to spend too much on my last baby but I am already admitting I made a mistake and need to post it on Craigslist and get another glider instead. You spend so much time in that chair it's insane. Just make sure your back/neck feel supported and there's some sort of cushioning for your arms. Also make sure if you get a rocking chair that it will rock easily if you are placing it on carpet.
And the idea of passing it on through generations is sweet but just remember there's no guarantee the next generations won't want a new glider/rocker of their own instead. So I wouldn't do it primarily for that reason.
Getting a glider isn't an option for us, unless we got one second hand (which I am NOT cool with, since it could have bed bugs or something). So we bought an old bentwood rocker, and we're nearly finished fixing it up.
I grew up with rocking chairs in my house, and I'm more comfortable on them than gliders. It's a personal preference, though. If you're comfortable with either, go for the cheaper option.
