Toddlers: 24 Months+

Bedtime help for the 2 yr old

I used to love bedtime.  Then my DD turned 2 and a switch flipped.  She went from being the easiest kid ever to put to sleep (seriously from the time she was an infant, she would go to sleep no problem).  Now all of a sudden she wants me to stay with her.  She yells all sorts of requests.  "I want apple!  I want juice"   I stay for a few minutes (cuddle time after books).  I can't stay the whole time I do have a 4 yr old to deal with.   I'm just so tired and wish she would just go to bed without crying about it.    She does stay in her room though.    She isn't in a crib- she climbed out so we turned it into a toddler bed.

Any ideas how to deal with the crying and carrying on?  She's too young to get the concept of a rewards chart.   Thanks.

  • Not sure if this would help but DD has one of those bug lights that shows the stars on the ceiling. She likes to count them and look for the moon.

  • Does she have something that she likes to sleep with? My Emma always slept with her bunny and when we moved, she added the whole Toy Story crew to the sleep routine. It bothered me at first, but she sleeps great, so I could care less now, lol

  • Yes she has a "My Pal Violet" and a Minnie Mouse that she love sto sleep with.  Plus a Yo Gabba Gabba Blanket too. She is fine when it comes to having "friends" in bed with her.

That sounds like a great idea.  Which one do you have?  I got one (name escapes me right now) and it was terrible.  The sound that was supposed to be soothing was loud and awful and you couldn't adjust the volume.  It even got bad reviews (one or 2 stars) on Amazon.

  • LO #1 has never been great at going to sleep.  We moved him into a toddler bed when we moved into our new house.   Two things we do/did that seem to make bedtime more bearable (sp?)  1. We put some books in his room and no toys.  That way if he gets up he can look at books which he usually does quietly until he falls asleep.  2.  When he's throwing a fit/gets out of bed we don't talk to him we just pick him up and place him back in his bed and leave.  That way he doesn't see he's "getting to us."  He's very smart...we're not quite at the point of potty training (waiting until after our beach vacay), but now he'll jump up and yell "need to pee or need to poop." ;)

For some reason I can not find the name of it online, but I will take a picture of it tomorrow when I get home from work. It doesn't play any music, just shows stars, the moon, and some constellations (if you can find them), with three different color choices.
