Leg/Hip pain signs of labor?

So today at my OB appointment I had an internal, and was told I'm at 3 cm, about 80% and at a -3. I still haven't been having any regular contractions that are time-able, or hurt to much. But my doctor told me to look out for leg, hip, and back pain as a possible sign of early labor. Have any of you been told this? I know back pain is associated with back labor, but hip pain and leg pain?

Re: Leg/Hip pain signs of labor?

This for me too. Dr said it's normal but didn't mention signs of early labor

That's what I was thinking because I've had hip pain since 32 weeks and it doesn't go away. I was just wondering if anyone else's OB said anything like that.

  • That's a new one to me...

  • I've had hip pains once about 25 weeks. My legs also ache every night. I don't think it's a sign of labor.

  • This is new to me. I have had leg and hip pains since like 4 months
  • I've been having hip pain since 2nd trimester. One of the midwives at my OB office said that they love to hear their patients complain of back, hip, and crotch pain because that means everything is normal. She's a little wacky, but I think she basically meant it is all part of the process and nothing to worry about.

I think what your doctor may be referring to is pain that comes & goes like a contraction would. Read under "What do True Labor Contractions Feel Like?":

    https://www.webmd.com/baby/guide/true-false-labor

I had a friend that had contractions in her back- the pain did radiate in her hips & down her legs. She wasn't having any "typical" contractions, so she didn't think anything of it. The next day, she got into the doctor & she was in labor. So, it's possible to have these symptoms!

  • I have leg and hip pain all the time, it's not labor. Consistent pains in your back could be labor, I had back labor and it's terrible. Hip and leg pain is part of the territory
