Re: Water breaking?!

  • Usually a clear liquid comes out sometimes followed by contractions that may or may not feel like period cramps. You will most likely continue leaking.

  • I had period like cramps before my water broke.

  • I read if your not sure to lay down for an hour with a pad on and then see what/how much is still leaking out. I have had false alarms and this is embarrassing but some leaks of urine from a bad cough I got from the kids at school since I am a teacher. If you think it is truly your water I would call the dr to check in.
  • I thought my water broke on Saturday. The nurse told me to lay on one side for 1 hour. After that hour, stand up & see if any water leaks (she said it would pool in your vaginal area while laying down). Some women have no cramping for hours after their water breaking, so I wouldn't use that as an indicator. If it is your water, good luck!!!!!!!
  • For me, my water didn't break until i was in active labor, 6 cm dilated and had already gotten an epidural.  It felt like a water balloon popping inside me and a huge gush of fluid came out all at once.  I was really grossed out by it.  Since I had the epidural it felt like a lot of pressure but I imagine there would have been cramping since I could actually feel it through the medicine!
  • I had back labor and irregular contractions starting the day before my water broke. When my water broke I felt two pops and when I stood up fluid started running down my legs. Once I got to the bathroom is gushed out and it didn't slow down until I had the boys. For me the real contractions the painful ones didn't start until after my water broke and they weren't consistent until 3 to 4 hours after.

  • When my water broke with my first kid, it was a small leak. It was like I peed myself a little bit every time I stood up. It took me a few hours to realize it was my water because it was such a small leak and I didn't have any cramping.  I guess my point is that there are many different ways you can experience ruptured membranes.
