Babies: 3 - 6 Months

weekend naps

How seriously do you stick to your nap schedule on weekends? My daughter just turned 4 months and takes 3 naps a day...She is also EBF and takes about 40-45 minutes to nurse. I feel like our day consists of eating and sleeping ...which during the week when I am home (On a 1 year maternity leave) is fine- but it's very hard to ever leave the house...I feel like by the time she wakes up, eats and we drive somewhere it is time for the next nap!

She has also hit that point where she won't just sleep in her stroller or in a lap anymore if she is tired..she just gets cranky and upset until we get her home in her bed. I try to keep her on her schedule as much as I possibly can, but sometimes you gotta get out of the house!

Re: weekend naps

  • With the first I stuck to his schedule pretty closely but with two you can't really do thay. I have to get out of the house every day to take DS1 places so DS2 has learned to nap pretty much anywhere. The only time we are definifely home is.during DS1's nap around 1:00 and I've worked really hard to get DS2 to take his big nap at the same time.

I wouldn't be a slave to her schedule if you have stuff to get done. The more you get out the more she will get used to it.

  • DD can sleep anywhere and it's great! I will try and be home as much as I can but there are just times that we are out and she is tired so she sleeps. She has gotten used to it so I don't worry about it anymore! GL

  • Same here. But I really don't worry about a schedule, I just worry about getting her to nap every 1.5 to 2 hours when we're not home since she only sleeps when rocked and in her crib.  It's stressful to even go to grandma's because by the time we get there, she's cranky and ready to nap so I spend the whole time rocking her in an office chair so she'll sleep maybe 30 mins.

This phase won't last forever so I try to just do what we want and deal with it when it comes.  I don't want to be stuck home all the time either! I'll be happy when nap times are more consistant and longer so that I can count on being able to leave after a nice long nap.  fingers crossed!

  • I say you just gotta start getting out and agree with PPs that the more you do it, the more she will get used to it. I spent 6 hours today running errands with DS today. We went to the mechanic, saw a family friend to help sign passport paperwork, passport office, saw another family friend, took the dog to the dog park. He does great at falling asleep in his car seat and fell asleep in the mei tai during our walk.

We don't do this much when we get out and about. In fact, that was the most busy we have ever been being out of the house. But he handled it like a champ!

I am also on a year on maternity leave, and to me, weekend routines and weekday routines are the same thing. Kids and babies just don't have reason to understand the difference.
