Grunting baby

I copied this from my birth month wall.

I think I have a gassy baby. He is always grunting and almost seems like he is constipated. He does have gas a lot and I can't tell it makes him uncomfortable. He also has the hiccups a lot but i know that is common. He is bf and gets and gets about 4 oz of formula a day. I tried gas drops and he seems to be spitting up more than usual.

Anything else I can do to make my sweet LO more comfortable?

Re: Grunting baby

  • My little girl was grunting constantly at night and trying to pass gas. It seemed she wouldn't be able to pass it unless I picked her up and changed her diaper. We started her on a probiotic and since then she had gotten a lot better. I am also EBF and cut out all the gassy veggies and dairy. I give her little tummies gas drops as needed before feeding her to minimize her spitting them up.

  • We had this problem as well however she was FF. Was discovered she couldn't handle lactose and or milk proteins. Her gas has decreased dramatically and the hiccups have decreased by half.

  • I'm on my phone so I can't see how old your LO is, but look up grunting baby syndrome. My DS had it and is just growing out of it now, at 10 weeks. It's perfectly normal and related to them learning how to deal with the gas.
  • my brother's baby used to grunt during the night times, does that sound normal for a baby, or do we need to consult a doctor?
