Success after IF

Argh- long

Okay I know you ladies will understand my frustration. Here is my long story.

Okay my in-laws are legal guardian of this girl. She is now 19 so she is no longer under their guardianship. She currently lives with her grandma. Okay, she is a troubled child, grew up in an abusive family, her grandmother that she lives with is emotionally abusive. She is a habitual liar, only finished high school with a certificate, not a diploma (she felt she needed to be in the special needs program, even though she doesn't need to be in it) her on again off again boyfriend just got released from jail b/c "he didn't do it". Okay do you get the picture? She can't hold down a job, she feels everybody owes her something. She plans on going on welfare and I don't think she'll ever get a job.

Well she's pregnant b/c she was too dumb to take her birth control properly , or so she says. I wouldn't put it past her to get pregnant on purpose. Okay so the dad doesn't really want anything to do with her or the baby. His family wants a DNA test to prove the baby is his. She is planning on going on welfare, and moving into a place called Hannah house, (which is a home for young mom's who don't have anywhere else to go.)

It hurt me to hear about this situation. It just seems so unfair. I know she will most likely be a terrible mom, that the child will grow up in a bad environment, the mom can't even afford to take care of herself, or not even capable of taking care of herself. *sigh*  I just needed a place to vent to women who understand how precious babies are!

What a terrible situation. It always feels so unfair when there are so many people who want a baby so badly and can't have one. Then there are those who don't want or deserve children and they get pregnant without even trying. I hope for the best for this child.

It is unfair someone so irresponsible can have a baby at the snap of a finger. It makes me sad people in situations like these may never know how special their child really is.

  • Yup. The worst story I ever heard was about a heroine-addicted prostitute who came into the hospital thinking she was having labor pains...she wasn't.  She actually called her drug dealer from the phone in her hospital room and staff overheard her making plans to buy drugs as soon as she was released.  When the hospital staff  tried to tell her that she could harm the baby through her drug use, she just said, "I don't care. I'll just have another. I already have 4."  Of course, she didn't have custody of any of them...her sister was raising all 4.

DH used to joke that fertility was directly disproportionate to ability to raise a child.  Clearly, that isn't true in most cases...but it sure seems like it is true some of the time!

  • That is horrible! A friend IRL has had two adoptions fall through from similar situations. She and her hubby married somewhat late, they got b!tchslapped with IF. The child would have had a wonderful, privileged like with my friend and her DH. Now the child will be *statistically* doomed to poverty, abuse, and likely a teen pregnancy. Sigh.

(note, not all teen parents will be poor, or abuse their kids, but the statistics indicate it is more likely than older, more prepared parents).

What a tragic situation.  Maybe I will be flamed for this but I feel really badly for the young woman as well as the baby she is carrying.  She never had a chance at life and now, unfortunately, neither does her baby.

Why would you be flamed? Not only is it a completely valid viewpoint, but it is also a kind viewpoint. If nothing else, IF has taught me that you never really know what demons someone else might be battling. I feel badly for them both also.
